Color Connection - from the author and publisher May 8, 2008 MaryAnn F. Kohl (Bellingham, WA USA) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
As the author and publisher, I've listened to what some folks have said about wishing for color in this book. If only it were that simple -- and I agree it should be in color. When it was published, that wasn't an option. Hopefully, in time, I can go back and redo the "Discovering Great Artists" in color. It's expensive and challenging for a small company, but I will try. Most educational activity books are not in color...that's how we keep the price under $20, which I know is important. What I've done for the time being is offer an online list of color images, in book page order, on my website at: [www dot brightring dot com] Viewing images for each great master is only one click away. Enjoy the online supplement!
And now, "Great American Artists for Kids" (came out in July 2008) and it is in FULL COLOR. See samples of the pages at: [www dot brightring dot com] I kept the price under $20 even though it was more costly than it's black and white companion. I wanted to be sure people could afford this book no matter if it was in color or not. You'll love the color. I'm really excited about it! I'm glad that my company was finally able to offer a book in full color for parents, teachers, and kids. It makes the artwork hands-on clear and beautiful.
Thank you!!

Discovering Great Artists: Hands-on Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters March 2, 2008 Suzy McCracken 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is exactly what they say, "hands-on". It has a wonderful selection of artists, starting with Giotto in 1266 ending with Van Allsburg in 1949. It covers such greats as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Monet, Degas, Renoir,Cezanne,Matisse,Kandinsky, Picasso, Grandma Moses, Rockwell,Pollock, Warhol and many others all in chronological order by date. It also includes a brief description of each artist and easy to follow instructions for using that artists style. It also shows examples of each artists artwork, along with icons telling what art technique is being used, how much planning and preparation will be needed and the artist style. Highly recommended for home or school.
Great January 8, 2008 S. Heintze (St. Leonard, MD USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We love this book because it gives short clips of history of many famous artists and easy ways to imitate each of their styles that range from easy to involved. It also has examples of art from children, of various ages, imitating the artists using their different mediums. Most of the mediums used can be found in your home. This helps your childs' master piece have a whole other meaning as it relates it to someone in history. It's great for homeschoolers, just flip through have a short history lesson and create away.
Great Artists December 12, 2007 josefstahl (Lakeside, CA the desert) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Great Artists a teaching aid for directing children. Like an earlier reviewer I wish there had been some color, but maybe this will force you to look at art books and their pictures. With so many schools cutting back on the arts we need more books like this. Service great and arrived quicker than I expected.
