Arrived as promised September 13, 2009 M. Powell The book was in the condition promised and arrived in a reasonable amount of time.
A Rare Author of Exceptional Clarity September 10, 2009 Erol Esen (Webster, NY United States) I was specifically interested in Mario Triola's explanation of the Hypothesis Testing and found him to be clearer than most other authors. Triola's teaching has that rare approach to the reader: anticipating what the reader may erroneously think about something, and then reiterating what is correct, and why. He adds excitement and encouragement to the reader as only a teacher would to a student by writing: "You should study the following example until you thoroughly understand it. Once you do, you will have captured a major concept of statistics." That paragraph, people may argue, is not needed. But this is the difference between terse writing and not. It triggers emotional memory.
From a college instructor: avoid this book July 7, 2009 S. Price (Cheshire, CT) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As an instructor who has taught college level Elementary Statistics from this text book 5 times, I would strongly recommend against this book. I spent most of my time working around this textbook, not with it. The students find the phrasing of the homework problems confusing. The objective of many of the homework problems is unclear. The interpretations of the statistical results that the author calls for require conjecture, not true reasoning skills. Additionally, the material is presented in a counterproductive order, the same one which most other elementary statistics texts follow. It isn't a smart way to present the material.
Two of the major problems with the content of this text: First, this text poorly explains the Central Limit Theorem, which is only the most important theorem in statistics. Second, the problems for small sample hypothesis tests of means with sigma unknown are contrived such that students would never learn that a p-value is measured from the 'tail' of the test (and therefore, can be greater than 0.5).
In short, this text is unclear and often unhelpful. Students who finish this class often only understand how to "take the exam" and never learn the concepts. I have had to supplement my class with my own sets of notes to accommodate the problems in this textbook. The text lacks global perspective on the material.

I purchased a textbook for class on 3/28/09. I emailed the company to sent me the correct book but did not get a reply and I would like to send the book back and receive a new book. This book cost $61.00 for a new book. A marketing Strategy planning Approach-Perreault,McCarthy and Cannon,16th Edition ISBN: 978-0-07-352980-6. I payed for the first book with a credit card so, If at all possible please exchange the books for me and credit the remainder of the funds to my credit card.
