Fourth Edition is Awesome April 16, 2009 Adam Helberg (Santa Ana, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used the 2nd edition of this book, but this edition is an order of magnitude improved. The book is much bigger: it now has over 1500 pages, and the print has color, including color diagrams.
Best of all, you now get online access to the full searchable text, including diagrams. This overcomes one of the criticism of the previous editions that the book is not portable. You can now get full acess at work or print out the pages you're interested in on a color printer and just take that to the OR.
I must say I was blown away by the improvements.
Take a good look before you pay for it April 2, 2009 doclibrarian (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I kept the previous edition for years and cannot remember a single instance when I really had to reach for it in a hurry. Contrary to its promising title and heft, it is not in the same league as Benumof's "Anesthesia and Uncommon Diseases" or the Mass General handbook. It offers earnest descriptions of surgical techniques beyond my level of expertise, while the anesthetic care is presented in a compressed, distilled form that resembles flash cards. You may find this useful for board prep. It is not really a manual because it does not teach how to do things - any major textbook does a better job. It is a reference guide. It may appeal to some readers, particularly residents and midlevel providers, as a convenient shortcut to understanding surgery.

Great book but really bulky. Can't really carry it around with you all the time. I would love to see a mini-version of it in paperback.

A handy resource to have on hand, especially if you know what your cases will be, or what speicalty areas you are in.
Not bad, but December 10, 2007 Luis Carlos Penas 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It doesn't describe all the procedures accurately, and sometimes the descrption of the procedures doesn`t change my anesthetic plan. I think it was written from a surgery point of view, rather than the anesthesiologist
