Stop right here, this is the only GRE book you need July 9, 2009 success on the (portland, or) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are planning on taking the GRE don't waste your money on other books, this thorough test prep book has everything you need including a diagnostic test, five sample tests, and a simple step by step approach to mastering the verbal, math and written segments of the GRE. I bought several other prep books, word books and vocab flash cards and I didnt need any of them.
On my first diagnostics test from this book I scored; Verbal 450, Math 380. After one week of intensively studying this book and going through the 4 chapters that teach you mastery of all of the verbal types of problems and the 4 chapters that teach the mastery of the math problems I took another diagnostic test in this book and scored 540 verbal and 660 math. The only vocabulary review I did was to write down all the words from the practice tests that I did not know, look up the definitions and put them on flash cards. In final preparation I went to the GRE website, downloaded the power prep software, practiced the timed essay questions and took a final diagnostic test from the GRE, where I scored verbal 570 and math 710. I felt completely confident when test day rolled around and my hard work payed off as my final official scores were Verbal 550 and Math 770. I couldn't believe I went from an 830 to a 1320 in one week of hard studying. I am certain this book was the key to my success. If I did it you can do it too. Good Luck!
Fast service, but not right year June 23, 2009 M. Perez 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I received the book really quickly, but it was the wrong edition. I received 2008 and what was advertised was the 2009 GRE book.
Great Review Book March 22, 2009 K. L. Robles Just took the GREs today and I must say that the CD simulates the test exactly, so there's no surprise as far as the format is concerned. Also, I found this book most helpful for the math section. Got a 1290, which is average, but definitely good enough for the programs I'm applying to. I recommend this book to anyone studying for the GREs. Invest some time and money into this book and you will get your score.

The product came just as described. I would recommend this seller to other buyers.
Helpful but not entirely accurate February 21, 2009 Rubber Ducky (Southern California) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
When I was shopping for books I wanted to know a few things:
1)Is it harder or easier than the real thing?
The Barrons is a little harder in the sense that the questions are slightly trickier. Seems that it's the Barrons philosophy to do the "learn to run before walking, so walking will be easier to do later."
2)Is it accurate?
Some questions are close to the real thing, some are much harder. For example the graph questions on the math section are MUCH easier on the real test. The graphs on the Barrons books don't show tick marks and often you get the question wrong because the data point looks like it could be anything from 10 to 15 and if you approximate too much in either direction you'll come up with the wrong answer.
Basically- accurate enough for practice. If you can do these you should be fine for the test.
3)Do I need to buy anything else?
I would recommend the Kaplan vocabulary flash cards. I find flash cards work way better than the wall of text that is included in the Barron's vocab section. I skipped over the barron's vocab section in its entirety so I cannot say how good or bad it is. (Only that I found it annoying to read)
4)Barrons vs. Real thing
During the weekend before the GRE I took the last 2 practice tests. On one I got something like 1370, the other 1410. I did way better than both of those on the real GRE.
5)What to buy with this-
Kaplan vocabulary cards and use the free software you get when you register for the GRE. The CD-rom isn't nearly as close to the real test as the powerprep software.
Bottom line- if I were able to go back in time I'd tell myself to buy this book. :)
