LOVED THE BOOK October 28, 2009 Margaret A. Konecky (Beachwood, Ohio) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having lost my father to pancreatic cancer 8 years ago, I knew how tragic Patrick Swayze's battle would be. This book was wonderful and dealt mostly with his life in show business. What a talented man. Only the last few pages dealt with his terrible diagnosis and it was tastefully written. I would recommend this book for anyone who was a fan of Patrick Swayze. It took a lot of guts to sit down at the end of his life and write this beautiful book.
I had the time of my life! October 27, 2009 Diane E. Thibodeau (Manchester, CT USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered the audio version of The Time of My Life for several reasons. I have never had an audio book, my relatives said they're really good for rush hour traffic going home every day and because Patrick Swayze recently died and I would have his voice available whenever I wanted. The best parts of the reading were when he fondly remembered the incident he was speaking of and would chuckle. It makes a person feel like he's right there just having a chat with you! I was very impressed. I do believe I will wind up ordering the actual book also however, since it does have pictures. And you know what they say about pictures.............!
A honest story of a guy with faults, ambition and loves... October 27, 2009 Melly (Dallas, TX USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Patrick Swazye was no professional writer, but he felt like neighbor talking to you. I expected this book to be about being diagnosed with a disease, instead it was about a man analyzing his life and looking at his accomplishments. There was no memorable lines, but a time with a guy who gambled on fame with confidence and dedication.
Gone too soon . . . October 26, 2009 Marc Hofstatter (Los Angeles, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first Amazon review that I have ever given and am most proud to write it. I've been a fan of Patrick Swayze's for years, and hearing his voice on the audio CD of his biography sent chills down my spine the first time i heard it. Such a sweet, generous man full of life taken from us all too soon. My only negatives on the biography I believe stem more from this audiobook being an abridged version of the memoir; I can only assume that it's a truncated version due to his advanced stage of illness. Personally, I would have loved more than a 2 minute track on ROADHOUSE, but a stunning book nonetheless.
Disappointed October 25, 2009 C. Mccann (U.S.A.) 10 out of 32 found this review helpful
From what I can gather Lisa gave up smoking, yet I'm not 100% sure of that, but he was a very heavy smoker, at least 3 packs a day at one time, plus the drinking when he was feeling sorry for himself, which seemed to be most of the time.
I think he probably did love Lisa, but he loved himself more and I feel he 'used' her for his own gain; maybe not at first but definitely later on. Look at all she did for him and here & there in the book he gave her credit but not often. She most likely would have had a terrific career had she not married him.
Very, very self-centered and yet insecure at the same time. Maybe the insecurity made him self-centered, I don't know. From what he wrote I'd have to say he got his insecurity from his mother because he nor the other sibs could ever quite meet her expectations.
I think the best word I can find to describe him is, Whiner. It seemed he was always whining about most everything.
When he was filming in India portraying that doctor, he told of things he'd done in the charity hospital to "help out" and in the leper colony etc. but in my mind it was more the attitude of "Look at ME ME ME. I'm really helping these people." Everything he may have done over there to help out was for his own benefit so the focus remained on him. When I read that part I said to myself: "Patrick? what did you really DO? If you cared so much for those poor people and you had this gorgeous ranch back in the States, why didn't you get antibiotics for those clinics in India and actually DO SOMETHING that would benefit them?"
He's still one-sexy-dude but in truth, I wished I hadn't read the book. I'd rather have been the ostrich with its head in the sand. The book in my mind has diminished him in my eyes.
