Calvin & Hobbes is the best October 31, 2009 G. Aumaugher 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this for my mother who was very sad when the strip stopped many years ago. I gave it to her yesterday and she loved it! And now I have something great to read when I visit.
The Complete C&H Now Has a Companion Guidebook October 18, 2009 Ross D. Martin MD (Washington, DC) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
It is difficult to add to the marvelous reviews provided here about this unparalleled collection. But now, nearly five years after its publication, there is something new to say. Nevin Martell has recently sent all us Calvin & Hobbes lovers a special gift: Looking for Calvin and Hobbes: The Unconventional Story of Bill Watterson and His Revolutionary Comic Strip. This book is Martell's beautifully rendered telling of his quest to learn more about Bill Watterson, the brilliant and reclusive creator of the tiger and his boy. If you love C&H enough to buy the complete set, you will want ("need" may be more appropriate here) to read this painstakingly researched and wonderfully written book. Read the few reviews about Martell's book, buy it, read it, and add a review of your own. And consider "recommending" this review so that more C&H fans can learn about this new satisfying read.
If you're into a collectable like this - then Yes. September 11, 2009 Scott R (Northwest USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
My son wanted this. He got a lot of cash for his birthday, and reasoned that he should be able to buy something with some of it (we normally put it all in his untouched savings account).
So, we got it for him.
He read it all in about four to five days.
Didn't feel like we got a whole lot for about a hundred bucks, since he read it so fast.
But, it IS a collectable set. Not exactly a bunch of paperback editions, which are more for the casual reader. And we knew exactly what we were doing when we ordered it. It was splurging for the sake of a birthday gift.
If you're not a collector, or not looking to get an uncommon or extra-special gift, then don't get this.
Otherwise.... go for it.
Calvin & Hobbes, When will they publish this in Mexican Spanish? August 27, 2009 Gabboxxx (Veracruz, México) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ever since I discovered "Calvin & Hobbes", I couldn't resist to their charm. This was one of the best gifts American cartoonists have given to the world. Most incredible was the wonderful adaptation to Mexican Spanish done by Editorial Patria back in the 90's. I don't either know or understand why this title hasn't been reprinted. Probably copyright issues. I bet that if any publishing company took the chance and reprinted all the volumes, many of us faithful followers would run and get our copy. This might be a little suprising to you, and yet, I still remember that every person to whom I showed my collection did enjoy and love everything about Calvin, Hobbes, Mom, Dad, Susie, the babysitter (we know her as Rosalinda), the bully from school (in Mexico he was named Mauri), the teacher and the principal... I mean they're unforgettable characters living lovely adventures. Their insights about the adult world and how it doesn't make much sense most of times to a six-year-old and how he relates to his very best friend and confident... Please, please, I'm begging you for a version in Mexican Spanish of "Calvin & Hobbes".
