4 out of 5 stars Interesting and helpful book!   October 15, 2009
A. Hett (Hamburg)
Interesting and helpful book! The explanation that each blood type should follow certain nutrition rules makes sense. I`ve started to follow this rules and I must admit that it really works. Not only can you loose some weight if you stick to the highly beneficial products but you will also feel better and stronger after starting to live after this book.
I can recommend it.
There is another book related to this it is called cook right 4your type.
In my opinion this book is a little disappointing, because the recipes are very basic and boring no haute cuisine!!! I think you will soon get tired of it when eating this every day! I think I will have to look in other cook books and alter the recipes according to my blood type.
Also the layout is not very appealing, no pictures no colours it does not invite you to start cooking.

I think to buy "eat right for your type" is sufficient and then you can alter your favourite recipes yourself after you know what is good for you to eat.

Book is just what I expected. I am not certain this is sound science but some things make sense and are worth trying. I will use it in conjunction with The Abs Diet. Some of the recipes are excellent. This seller was quite good and shipment was prompt. I am well pleased.

3 out of 5 stars Not realistic   September 30, 2009
B. Bradley (IN, USA)
My husband is type O and has gout which flares up periodically. The suggested foods for his blood type are contradictary to suggested foods to avoid gout flare ups. I am AB and cannot stand most seafood as it causes stomach distress for me, and fish is strongly recommended for my blood type. Basically, this did not give us any realistic answers, but it was an interesting read.

4 out of 5 stars VERY helpful book with a few recipes included   September 23, 2009

I already wrote a review for Cook Right 4 Your Type, and if you want to go straight to the recipes, buy that one. This has more detailed information about the history of blood types, blood components and has the food charts and a few recipes. I like both books but the cookbook has more updated food listings and information. I do suggest getting both because you gain a better understanding of what this diet is all about.

5 out of 5 stars Rational Diet   September 20, 2009

Dr. D'Adamo's book is a diet book. The first thing that comes to mind when the word "diet" is mentioned is this is a book for losing weight. From Wikipedia, "In nutrition, the diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism." When Dr. D'Adamo discusses diet he means in this book he puts forth a theory that connects one of 30,000 genes in the human genome namely the gene for blood type with a specific group of foods that benefit one of the four blood types in the ABO blood typing system. It happens that this specific regimen does usually result in the loss of weight for persons who are over weight. However, the book is much more than this. Dr. D'Adamo has collected together the results of his own research and those published in respected refereed journals listed in the book. He then integrated this material into a coherent theory with a set of suggestions for meals for individuals who wish to attempt to improve their health.

What is delightful about the book is that it covers just enough of the theory without going too deep to validate his approach. Beginning with each blood type a short general description is given concerning beneficial foods and those that inhibit metabolic functions. This is followed by lists of specific foods, menus, and supplement lists as appropriate. Thusly, by blood type the reader sees that at least in theory how he can lower bad cholesterol; normalize triglicerides; normalize metabolic rate; normalize thyroid hormone production; normalize calorie utilization; decrease digestive toxins; and the list could go on and on. Thusly, this is a book about radically changing your health and not just losing weight. Reviewers on these pages have stated that weight loss does occur as well without necessarily reducing food intake. Significantly, the book has been translated into at least 26 languages and has been an international best seller every year since its publication about 15 years ago. This review was written in 2009.

I have never had a weight problem - always instead looking for ways to improve general health and longevity. I found the book in 1996 and began the diet almost immediately as I knew my blood type. I found that my general well being energy, stamina, fatigue all improved radically. I also was never quite able to find beneficial foods on my own because most of what I was eating were foods that happened to have some negative effect on my well being. The diet is not perfect and I believe that each person will find some foods that are touted to be good for his blood type whilest they may not be for reasons unique to them. My blood type is A and I found that I can not eat oatmeal. Having followed the other tonic foods for type A, it was easy to weed out the oatmeal. I have found that during periodic physicals blood parameters have improved as well. Significantly, I did go ahead and get a detailed blood analysis that told me secretor status; and Rh factor; M, N group; and Lewis a/b group. Interestingly, some foods shifted slightly from those in the book in terms of whether they were tonic foods or neutral foods. None of the shifts in my case went to "avoids." These results gave me further confirmation this revolutionary theory. For example as an "A" peanuts are tonic foods according to the book. Whereas, the more detailed analysis shifted peanuts to neutral or foods that should be eaten once or twice a week. This is consistent with experiment since I do fine on peanuts as long as I don't eat too many of them.

One comment on the negative reviews. First, I view their relatively small number for the honest ones as a confirmation that the blood type diet does work for most people. Second, it looks like a fair number of these reviewers did not read the book, saying for example there was no evidence for the validity of the diet. Whereas Dr. D'Adamo presents much supporting material in the book from external sources including reputable journal research papers.

If there is one thing each individual could do to reduce their cost of health care it would be to follow the recommended diet for their blood type in this book.
