Learning Web Design February 12, 2009 Tony L. Mccoy The book Ireceived Learning Web Design is a very at instructing web design; but the binding is very poor for class room function. The binding on my is starting to lose pages and has had very little use.
Thank You;
Tony
Great book! January 13, 2009 D. Burley (StPaul, MN) I've been playing around with WYSIWYG software since the early 1990's (with Adobe's PageMill, Apple's Homepage and then [and now] with Macro-Adobe's Dreamweaver), but never got around to really learning how to code by hand. Since then the world has changed and so has the world wide web. Now you really need to know how to code a site using xhtml and css (css for layout and not just to color and size the text) if you are serious about designing websites.
This book is great as it starts from the beginning and walks you slowly through the process of understand the process during each step. It also has 'quizzes' at the end of each section to make sure you are retaining the information you need before you proceed to the next step. This book along with the free tutorials at the CSS-tricks website and you'll be a web design Jedi Master in no time!
Thank You O'Reilly Press! :)
Great learning tool January 12, 2009 J. Sparks (Hermitage, PA USA) Learning Web Design is a great learning tool. If your looking to start creating web sites, this is a good book to start with. It teaches (X)HTML and CSS in a simple and easy to follow way. Each chapter is loaded with exersizes that you work along with on your computer. This lets you learn how to write (X)HTML, the code that make up websites, hands on and step by step. This lets the reader build experiance and confidence. At the end of every chapter are quizes that help drive home the concepts of each chapter. Every quiz is set up a little bit different than the others so the book never gets repititious. The author makes an entertaining read out of what could be very dry material. She has a down to earth approach and does'nt talk over the reader's head. I was very much a "newbie" when I bought this book but before I new it Learning Web Design had me writing (X)HTML and understanding what I was doing! I strongly recomend this book to anyone who is just starting out and not sure where to even start.
Excellent source of knowledge October 27, 2008 Osmin MagaƱa (El Salvador) The books cover the basics of HTML design. However, you can learn many things about the intermediate topics in Web design, XHTML, CSS, etc. It's a "must" in your Web Design bookshelf.
Beginners review of this book October 21, 2008 Bob barker (nashville, tn) 26 out of 29 found this review helpful
As from the title, i am a beginner of HTML and CSS. I am reading books to help me have a better understanding of web design when i go to learn Dreamweaver and Flash. If you have read my other review on "Sams Teach yourself HTML and CSS" I bought these two books and i am rating them against one another on how well i learned something since they are the only two books i have read at this time. Because it is alot of info, i will indicate the pros and cons of this book:
Pros of this book:
1. The book is in color compared to "HTML and CSS in 24 hours".
2. The exercises are fun and there are alot in this book.
Cons on this book:
1. I think this book hardly covers any area compared to HTML and CSS in 24 hours".
2. This book is over priced for what better quality you get out of the 24 hour book"
3. Her appendix on code in the back of the book is only 2 pages long, thats a joke compared to how much code is out there and the 24 hour book has 10+ pages of code to help you out.
4. The chapters arent laid out well.
Overall, compared to most books, i think this book was ok by only the excerises that were in the book and it to be a decent hands on book. Do i think this book is for beginners, yes, but it only scratchs the surface. If you want a good reference guide, i would recommend "HTML and CSS in 24 hours" because when it is rated between those two books, the other book is soooooo much better, read my review on it to help you better.
