Great as usual! April 4, 2009 James Clayton (California) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Another great book in the "Missing Manual" series! Covers detail on tough to learn subjects and gives ideas and suggestions along the way. A must book for anyone using PE7!
I was already confused... March 30, 2009 mil aves 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I'd like to see some LISTS or tables listing all of the brushes or all of the filters or problems and solutions, for example. I'm constantly riffling through the book to find which tool or technique to use and I may have to go to several chapters before I find my information. A straightforward table comparing all of the TOOLS would be a big help to me. I'm going to do it myself.
In a number of areas the book advises to go to the WEBSITE for information. The comment about LIGHTING effects (which I use often but have never mastered) is to the effect that lighting is a complicated subject that we won't get into right now, see our website. Since lighting is one of the reasons I bought the book, this is frustrating.
I have been especially interested in doing some RESTORATION or correction of faded old color snapshots (ca. 60s, 70s, 80s), and B/W snapshots from the 40s, 50s. I needed to correct some creases or spots on them and deal with fading color and blurring. The book gave no information in this vein, nor does the website. Considering the power of PhotoShop, there must be a lot of people who also want to do some touch ups of family photos. Nada.
I admire this writer for tackling a very big subject, but I just didn't find that the INSTRUCTIONS were logically organized, and I often have to page through the 575 (!) book to find a small reference.

It's almost ONE MONTH later. I went to the Missing Manual website to learn about lighting effects. The content was informative, but could be improved by the addition of photos with examples.
It's a manual March 25, 2009 Pavel Nazartsev 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Must say I am pretty disappointed with this book. It does read as a manual and, honestly, given the level of explanations, I'd rather read the actual help file in the software - it has hyperlinks. Print quality is pretty poor for a book that teaches you how to work with pictures. So, if you are looking for a book that just covers the help file in paper format, get it, it will cover that task admirably. If you want the ease of learning of Photoshop Elements, or pick up some tricks of the trade, it's not going to help you.
BEST Photoshop Elements "Help" Book by Far! March 21, 2009 T. Barker 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Photoshop Elements is one of the few pieces of software that is VERY difficult to learn - and every time I try to use the help files I'm none the wiser.
I recently had the opportunity to flip through 5 different books on Elements 7 at a Chapters book store. This was the best - hands down.
I looked in the index for a couple of problems I've had with Elements recently. This was the only book where I could find the answers listed under the terms that I would search for, and then explained the exact process clearly and thoroughly.
