As a new-be on gluten free diet, I found this book easy to understand. Most importantly why the diet is so important.
A Positive, Encouraging Gluten-Free Guide January 12, 2009 Anna Z (Indianapolis) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great guide for those who are new to the gluten free world. I picked it up when I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance a few months ago and found it informative, easy to read, and lighthearted. I've found other gluten free or celiac resources to be very dull and have too much of a medical tone, but Danna Korn infuses cheerfulness and humor into the subject.
Korn became entrenched in the gluten free world when her son was diagnosed with celiac disease as a child. At the time (and still today really) there were limited resources and experts available. Through her quest to make her son's life better, she has become an authority on the subject. Her you-can-do-it attitude makes going gluten free sound like a relief instead of a burden.
This book gave me the basics of gluten intolerance - what it is, what the symptoms are, what it does to your system, what foods to avoid, and the difference is between allergies, intolerance, and celiac disease. I also found it valuable to learn about other seemingly unrelated symptoms, the less obvious ingredients to avoid, and some basic tips for navigating social scenes with a special diet.
Not all of the book was for me. I don't have Celiac disease, so I'm not quite as concerned with cross contamination or handing out laminated cards with my diet needs at restaurants. And I'm not much of a cook so I skipped the recipe section.
If you've been living gluten free for longer than six months, you probably know most of the information in this book. But even then, I'd recommend it for an easy to read reminder with a positive spin. This was a very informative read and I still refer to it. Having the Kindle version is especially nice because I've been able to search for answers to questions that have come up while grocery shopping or out to eat.

5 Stars is not Enough October 20, 2008 Mitchell S. Davis (Irvine, CA United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My 19 year old daughter was diagnosed as gluten intolerant and we started a search for information. I found this book on amazon.com and I was amazed at the fantastic reviews. They are well deserved. My daughter could not put the book down. Most books on the subject are either medical books or nutritional guides. This is an entertaining read which is FULL of useful info such as how to snack at a party. I have spoken with the author Danna Korn and she is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Do not assume a "Dummies" book is too simple. It makes a complicated medical condition simple to understand.
Excellent Resource October 16, 2008 Sandra K. OConnor (Waco, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the most comprehensive yet down-to-earth resource for those of us with celiac disease who must live gluten-free. I've read several books that give me medical terms that are useful I'm sure but fail to cover the basics of day-to-day living. This one does just that plus it has recipes and lots of web sites to explore. I would call this the "Bible" for gluten free living.
