Just OK January 9, 2010 Dianne Erickson (Jacksonville, Oregon) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought I was going to get more information on Cloud computing, my mistake... the writing is just ok, the story of the company is interesting, especially their climb to stardom. I like the idea of Cloud computing and they are doing a great job of selling the idea and making it work. How much you will like this book depends on what you want to get out of it.
Essential Reading for an entrepreneur looking to build a service model January 5, 2010 Christopher Clark (Phila, PA) Marc B and this book relays to readers insight and intelligence across strategies and tactics for building a business model, culture, and company in the next gen internet age. Most importantly, what the reader gets is a taste of intensity and decisiveness that is personal and can be applied to any service model. This book will be assigned in MBA classes.
Business execution January 1, 2010 Ilya Grigorik (Toronto, ON, Canada) A quick and easy read structured as a collection of 100+ tips from the lessons learned at founding and growing [...]. While many people have focused on Salesforce's vision of cloud computing and its implications, I found the execution to be the most insightful: business development, leveraging connections, bold marketing moves. Many entrepreneurs like to believe in 'build a great product, and they will come', this book and [...] is a great example of how there is much more to this story - [...] did have a great product, but that by itself wouldn't have been enough when they started. The chapters on preparing the company for the IPO, growing the team, and philanthropy are alone worth the read.
Fun. December 27, 2009 M. Heiss (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
There are some wonderful business ideas in this book, including Benioff's ideas on philanthropy and guerilla marketing.
The "101 sales plays" format got tired after about 20 plays. The plays tended toward being repetitious and repetitious, if you know what I mean. I think salesforce.com is great, but this book is a little on the eye-rolling side.
If you like reading books where the author/entrepreneur is always grinningly telling you how smart, clever, and popular he or she is, then you'll like it.
The Blueprint for SaaS Start-ups! December 24, 2009 Marketing Pilgrim (USA) I don't often write book reviews, but felt compelled to share just how valuable this book is!
As the CEO of a SaaS start-up ([...]), I found Benioff's book both entertaining and educational. I can't wait for 2010 to get started so I can implement his advice!
Buy this book no matter what type of start-up you have. Definitely buy this book if it's in the cloud computing space!
