A simple read July 5, 2009 Thomas Aiello (SI, NY) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Being a big fan of Americann Chopper I was looking forward to this book hoping it would shed some insgight on wht Paul sr. is the way he is & why he treats his kids the way he does, the show doesn't always portray him in the best light when it comes ti family matters.
After reading the book, which is an easy read I got though it in about 3 days I had many questions answered & came away undersatnding Paul Sr. & his ways more than I had.
The book is more about running a business & the way to go about it using Pauls life as the back ground, it's not so much about Building bikes & forging steel in the Iron works industry, it's about him, the book briefly touchs on every aspect of his life & experiances just enough to keep you intrested & leave you wanting to know while giving the reader what amounts to simple yet very effective life when it comes to runing a business.
Being a Business owner myself I found myself at time nodding my head in agreement with just about everything I read. Paul makes it sound so simple, & to a certain extent it really is.
This isn't Shakespere, it was thrown together rather quickly, but it's effective enough to get the point across without boring the reader to sleep. The book can be an insipration to some.
Self Help or Selling Yourself June 26, 2009 Robert Beaver (Behind the Orange Curtain) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I watch the show. The book showed me that Senior is more like his father than he'd like to admit. It's kind of a motivational book on business and it would shine better if more effort were put into it; including insights from other family members. It's rather shallow and I was overall disappointed in the effort. Like many choppers, this book is an example of beat to fit and paint to match.
Another guy looking for a quick buck June 26, 2009 A. Swanson (NorCal) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was a huge fan of the show and the bikes from the beginning. Sadly, both have gone downhill and this guy is the main reason. He's a sad example of a father, in my opinion. Deserting his sons when it works for him is one example.
As far as the book? Wasn't written by him, sorry. Yep, his name and picture are on the covers, but between those are someone else's words. I'lve listened to him for ten years and he has neither the intelligence nor the command of the language to have written this. Just like the bikes he sells - his name and face, someone else's work and ideas.
Yes, it has some good advice. But it's not his. And that makes this a sham.
Better Appreciation for the American Chopper Show June 25, 2009 John Gallagher 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's always a good read to see someone who pulls themselves up by their own boot straps and makes a success of their life. I get upset though when I watch the ranting and raving, especially at family, on the show. Paul Sr, just look at what you've accomplished. Be proud and enjoy and quit all this bickering. It's below you and the vocation you've chosen.
