A business book?? August 29, 2009 Coastal Jerky Lover (NC) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a long time viewer of the American Chopper show, I had looked forward to reading Paul Sr.'s book. What a waste of time. The only good thing about the book was that it was a quick read. There was nothing in the book that hadn't already been said on their tv show. I don't really think a person who bullies people and throws major tantums is a very good example of a successful businessperson. There are many books available on running a business; this is not one of them. If you are looking for good business advice, skip this book.
A joke August 5, 2009 A. Haglund (California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm a huge fan of the show and expected a look behind the cameras, the back story to some of the events and Paul giving his version of what has happen at OCC. Instead I got a book full of ludicrous business advice sprinkled with random anecdotes that rarely has anything to do with the point he is trying to make. The only interesting part of the book was the foreword written by David Letterman. I expect Dave was just as disappointed as me since none of the questions he raised in the foreword was answered in the book.
After reading this book two things becomes obvious: 1. Most of Paul's success comes down to dumb luck, not the ridiculous advice he gives in the book. 2. He is totally oblivious of #1.
The Ride of a Lifetime July 11, 2009 Maccani Mario 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is an easy-to-read volume, with little by way of Paul Teutul's life - it is NOT an autobiography. He does make mention of certain facts of his childhood (a rather loveless family, his later addictions), but these are rather to illustrate the odds against which he fought to get where he is now. This book is more a guide how to succeed in business, and in this regard it is more motivational than factual - if you're looking for specific ways in which to increase your turnover, for example, this is not what you're looking for. Chapters such as "Stay Organized" or "Never Sell Out" are too vague to be of any real use, other than their implicit value of shouting "You can do it!" to you.
Not very good read July 10, 2009 E. Stivers (Texas) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Glad I checked this out at the library instead of buying...not a book I would care to have in my collection...I like the show and the family but I was happy when I finished this book...it was all about how great Senior thinks he is...yes he has done well and overcome many obstacles but he owes a great deal more to Junior than he is willing to admit...seems like the show and Seniors relationship with Junior and Mikey are taking a turn south...sad.
