Two Good Half Books Don't Equal One Good Book... June 17, 2009 M. P. Barry (The Woodlands, TX) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bogle's thoughts on markets and investing have developed a passionate group of followers. The first part of "Enough..." goes over history and and his principles again, but with little that's been previously unsaid. I did enjoy his expose' of the financial services industry and the large structure whose only apparent purpose seems to be siphoning off value that should belong to shareholders. However, Bogle doesn't go far enough with this topic nor does he take on the dupes and financial illiterates, including nearly all of our elected officials, who enable the travesty he decries.
The second half book appeared to me as an inconclusive and poorly focused rumination on excesses and satisfaction, but I could never come to grips with exactly what Bogle was trying to communicate. Apparently I completely missed the point, but I still cannot diagnose whether the weakness is in my reading or Bogle's writing.
I would skip this book entirely and focus instead on other works that explain his diagnosis of the industry and views on investing, which would be more satisfying.
Worth my money June 5, 2009 Maria Rivera-deleon (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its hard to stop reading this book page by page once you started it. Its very personal and educational for me. This will truly be your guide to your conscience when it comes to acquiring your wealth in the money world. This will help you keep on the balance. John Bogle is like a living legend. Every business minded person should acquire this book! If you are greedy you will hate to read this.
Bogle at His Best June 3, 2009 Peter Leavitt (Boston) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With this gem of a book, one gets a tough-minded analysis of the recent financial meltdown along with a bracing talk from the heart and mind of a major historical figure in the world of American finance. I have given this wise book to three children and six older grandchildren.
Can't Get Enough Of Mr. Bogle June 1, 2009 R. Caldwell 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book was a joy to read. The dedication Mr. Bogle has to the common investor comes shining through in this book. Chapter 10 is a pure treasure and had me reflecting back on my life. This isn't just an investment book but a book on values and accountability. I don't know how he'll top this book but I hope he trys.
Moral,,conservative analysis of current financial crisis. April 19, 2009 Edward Pierson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book Enough, true Measures of Money, Business, and Life, by John Bogle, founder of Vanguard Mutual Fund group, provides understandable analysis of the financial markets of 2009 for the economic layman. Bogle's empahsis is that success and life are more than money, and he asks the provocative question, " Howe much is enough?" - for you, for me, for the country.
Written by a wise and compassionate elder statesman of the financial community who appears to live wht he preaches.
