Nicely Organized September 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the most thorough out of all the AP Biology study guides and I really liked the way it is organized. It has both multiple choice and essay questions at the end of each chapter. This is the best AP study guide for biology.
The ONLY AP Bio book you need August 9, 2007 Halcykon 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is great. I received a 5 on my AP test, and trust me, my teacher sucks. Phillip Pack offers concise, informative explanations that serve as good preview and review tools for your coursework. I recommend using this as a SUPPLEMENT, as sometimes it does not go into too much detail.
I swear my teacher reads this. Sometimes the lectures are so similar to the same chapter it's obvious.

I found reading this book and answering its questions while covering the material in class to be incredibly helpful. The content is thorough, and it covered several topics that were never discussed in my class (which happened to turn up on the exam). Most importantly, this book is easy and entertaining to read. Buy it at the beginning of the year and let it guide you through your tests and quizzes as well as the exam. I owe my 5 to this book.
This book really helped me, but is a little outdated. July 27, 2007 Scott Cowan (California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book and used it to prepare in the 3 weeks preceeding the exam. It was very useful in refreshing my memory on topics from earlier in the year that i was a little rusty on. In fact my score was much higher than I anticipated getting. I only have two complaints. The first is that the quizes and practice tests did not in any way, shape or form represent the type of questions on the actual AP exam. The other is the fact that this edition is from 2000 or 2001 and the newer edition didn't come out until July, two months AFTER the exam. I definately recomend the 3rd edition that came out in July 2007, I'm sure it will be a far better help.

I used this book a lot during my year of AP Biology. I took it as a sophomore with little background in the subject. I found it to be very helpful, especially when the textbook didn't explain things in a way I understood it; it was great to get another vantage point. This book breaks down photosynthesis and cell respiration, two of the hardest parts of ap bio (oh, you may think you know, but you have no idea til you take this class), so that they are easily understood. Occasionally information was left out that my teacher put on one of our tests, so I reccomend using this book in conjunction with your textbook/own notes. The short reviews at the end of each section were great to do the night before a test because they don't take too long but they get the point across, explaining the reason for each answer thoroughly, whereas some books have long section quizzes that, by the time you finish, you don't have time to go over all the questions. The multiple choice practice ap test was harder than the actual ap exam (2007), but still great. I got a 5 (:D) and this book helped me get there, i reccomend it.
Also reccomended: REA's ap biology with 6 full-length practice exams (was awesome to do in the weeks approaching the exam)
