Great for the first-time test taker! April 5, 2009 B. Bullard (Louisville, KY) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great review tool, it's especially great when you beign to study for the test. If you use this, along with other review methods, you will have a thorough knowledge of what will be on the test, and how to prepare!
Easy Reading March 1, 2009 Twilight (Baltimore, Md. United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is very easy to read. It keeps your attention and focus. I found it to be very informative and most of all not boring. You won't fall asleep. It will keep your eyes on the prise, a great GRE score.

The book came in the mail in expected time. The condition of the book was exactly as described in the description.
GREs suck as much as the SATs January 6, 2009 kate mcgowan (seattle, wa) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I thought this book was a great way to ease me into taking the GREs. Everything is very easy to understand and well illustrated by the author (as well as funny).
Instead of giving lists of vocab you have to read through the book to compile a list - which at first I thought was annoying but in the end I thought it was better. I did as they suggested, making flashcards for every word. However, if I could go back and write the 400 cards again, I would have divided the seperate colors into positive words, negative words and neutral. That way if you didn't remember the definition you could hopefully remember the color.
Finally, I would say that although this book was very user-friendly I am glad I purchased a second (Kaplan with an attached CD of tests) book. I found the second book to be a bit harder and between the two gave me a better range of questions.
Good luck!
Very helpful for almost-40 GRE taker November 10, 2008 Dawn 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book to be extremely helpful. I attempted to re-learn math using Barron's and it was incomprehensible at first. GRE for Dummies did an excellent job of explaining most of math concepts you'll find on the GRE. Once I read Dummies, I went back to Barron's and it made a lot more sense. I also thought the verbal test-taking tactics were very helpful. One that really came in handy was making different colored note cards listing similar words so you learn to associate them with each other and with a "positive" or "negative" color. For both verbal and quant, GRE for Dummies provides a lot of explanation for all the practice questions--something that is lacking in other prep materials, especially the practice tests you get from the GRE itself. I would not use this book alone, but it is a great way to get started, especially if you've been out of school for a long time like me. And, it is way more fun to read than the other GRE books!
