True Insight at Last November 10, 2009 C. W. Czekala (San Francisco, CA) When a neuroanatomist experiences a stroke at a young age, recovers over the next eight years, and then in her generosity of spirit, writes a book describing exactly what her experience has been, we all receive a great gift. Dr. Bolte Taylor has placed on these pages an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand narrative that includes how the brain functions, how hers "broke down," and step-by-step, her process of recovery. She is delighted to report the bonus she has discovered as a result of this process; and her unique understanding of brain circuitry enables her to make the information completely accessible.
Everyone should read this wonderful book as an aid to our understanding one another and ourselves, not just when we are "broken," but all the time. With mental illness one of our chief health problems in this country (is there a family anywhere that is not grappling with the mental illness of at least one of its members?) books like this, and the ongoing work that Bolte Taylor engages in are invaluable to the population at large.
My Stroke of Insight November 8, 2009 Kathy Witt Fantastic book! Everyone in my family has read this book in order to help in our father's recovery from his recent stroke. My Stroke of Insight is an absolute must for anyone who has a loved one recovering from a stroke. The doctors and nurses don't have all the answers: Read this book.

Truly insightful from a range of perspectives October 27, 2009 Deborah Markenson (Jefferson City, MO USA) I checked this book out at the library and ended up buying two to distribute to friends and families. Very insightful on how the brain works, the human spirit, how to care for patients, how important family and friends are, how to support those with strokes, and how to live ones life.
Interesting and inspiring book October 23, 2009 Alexandra Dyshlyuk (US) It's a very interesting and inspiring book. I also recommend listening to Jill's interview with Oprah.
