Too Expensive April 21, 2009 K. Albe (Weston, Fl United States) 11 out of 53 found this review helpful
LOVE Baldacci- but what's with this price? The best reason I found for justifying the expensive purchase of the Kindle was that I would save so much money on the books. I can get almost same price buying this book at B&N. If I do that- I can loan it to family members and resell it as well- which makes the B&N hardcover book a far better value.
I would really love to buy this book- I love everything I've ever read by David Baldacci- but I won't buy this for more than $9.99- the price I was led to believe books were when I purchased the Kindle.
Fast-paced Thriller- Hang on to your hats! April 21, 2009 Amy Y. (FREMONT, CA USA) 30 out of 48 found this review helpful
I couldn't put this down. You know those books where you want to skip pages or just read *faster* so you can find out what happens?!? This is one of those.
I haven't read much by Baldacci but I'm going to go back now and see if he has other books I can load up on. Great writing, especially the action scenes. I love that the two protagonists have a little intrigue of their own instead of being your typical heroes all-in-white.
The First Lady throws a Birthday Party for her favorite neice at Camp David. The party goes well and the First Lady heads home happily to the White House. Later that night, her neice goes missing, there is a murder and another unrelated woman is kidnapped. Sean and Michelle are PIs who arrive on the scene. Sean is linked to the First Lady and he and Michelle are both former Secret Service.
From there, not even knowing why the First Lady's sister had called for their help, they become entangled in this complicated mystery.
You'll have to read it- no spoilers here! A quick read because it is hard to put down but very well written! Love how it all comes together in the end! I literally couldn't sit still while I was reading First Family.
For me, it was totally worth the price even if it didn't have as big a discount as other books- actually, I'd probably pay more having read it now!!

Great book April 21, 2009 grumpydan (Andover, NJ United States) 46 out of 67 found this review helpful
David Baldacci creates an impossible situation with believable characters. When the president's niece is abducted after attending a birthday party at Camp David, the question is why? Why are private investigators Sean King and Michelle Maxwell hired to locate the missing child? And what does the abductor want? Why has he kidnapped another woman along with the child? So many questions, which all get answered as the story unfolds. This book had me on the edge of my recliner as I read each chapter wondering where is was headed and why. Great book.
