awesome book September 24, 2009 Julie Susan Wood (Waterford, California) I really enjoyed this book. It started out with action and ended with action. I really love the sound effects that they put in the audio. The sound effects really make the action come alive. Fantastic author.
Baldacci At The Top Of His Game September 19, 2009 Jerry D. Finley (Asheville, NC) Truly enjoyed First Family. Baddacci has never been one of my favorite authors as his work has seemed a little inconsistant.. especially when compared to my favorites like Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, or even Clive Cussler books (the ones without his son.) First Family is truly a page turner in the classic since... possibly his best yet.I'm just sayin.'IMHO.. Well worth a read.
Fantastic read! September 17, 2009 DD (Baltimore, MD) David Baldacci has done it again with First Family. It was suspenseful and captivating. It was one of those books that I enjoy so much that I don't want it to be over, but can't stop turning the pages. A real hit with me.
Wish we had more of Willa September 11, 2009 michael a. draper (Guilford, CT) In a follow up to Baldacci's "Simple Genius" Former CIA agents Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are called to Pam Dutton's home. She wants to hire them. However, when they arrive, someone has murdered Pam and kidnapped her daughter, Willa. Willa is the niece of the First Lady and when the First Lady hears of the kidnapping she hires Sean and Michelle to find Willa.
Sam Quarry is a finatic. He's behind the kidnapping to seek revenge from a prior wrong. He sends his son, Daryl, and a man named Kurt to carry out the crime. When Pam fights back Daryl accidentally kills her. Quarry then kills Kurt to teach Daryl a lesson.
As King and Maxwell begin their investigation, Michelle is given a call that her mother has died. She goes to her parent's home and finds that her mother was murdered, so Michelle stays there to investigate that killing.
In Washington, D.C., Sean is performing his search for Willa. He finds that Willa's father, Tuck, has been having an affair and wonders if that could be a motive for having his wife killed and a fake kidnapping.
Quarry has also kidnapped a woman named Diane Wohl. When the two kidnapees meet they become friends. Quarry tells Diane that Willa is actually her daughter, she's the child Diane put up for adoption twelve years ago.
The story takes too long to develop and the reader must put up with a subplot around Michelle's mother's murder. This takes away from the suspense of the kidnapping and adds confusion. Where King and Maxwell have been interesting characters in the previous novels, they come across as somewhat stiff, cardboard characters. Sean's clashes with the FBI and CIA who are also searching for Willa are stereotypical of the knowing PI against the inflexible hard nosed Federal agents. This has been done many times and doesn't come across here.
Willa is a wonderful character and it would be nice to see her in a future story.
Overall, not one of Baldacci's best but still enjoyable.
First Family September 2, 2009 Paige C. Johnson (WV) Baldacci always delivers!!!! I have never been disappointed in any of his novels, and I have read them all. First Family will keep you reading from the first page. I really like the Sean/Michelle duo. Just waiting for them to hook up. But, Baldacci keeps us all guessing, along with the thrills and chills of this novel. Once you get into it, you can't stop reading.
