Keeps getting better and better November 18, 2009 Mae Doe 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is really great. I have to say that on a personal note, my favorite book is still book four, but the writing of Charlaine just keeps getting better, and the story lines just keep getting more interesting. I am glad this book was about weres, shapeshifter, and fairies, but it still was able to balance the vampire theme appropriately. It basically shows that in Charlaine's universe, all the supernatural are peeps. When I read the synopsis of all the books before I decided on whether to take on the series or not (I like the tv show and wanted to know what may happen next), I was taken back by the introduction of fairies and thought it was too much. However, when I read the entire series, I saw how it was was well done and balanced, and actually believable for that universe. There are a few inconsistencies here and there throughout the series, but Charlaine acknowledges them and is trying to prevent them in the future. I am so glad she created this series. It is so thrilling.
Dead and Gone November 17, 2009 Cat (Long Island, NY) I have recently become a huge fan of Charlaine Harris and her Sookie Stackhouse series. I eagerly await book 10. BTW does anyone know if it's in the works or the release date?
I feel this book didn't have as much action packed drama as the others but you learn a lot about Sookies life and the secrets hiding with in Sookies world. I dont know what I will read if Mrs. Harris doesn't continue this story on and on for all the possibilities that can arise. I just don't know how she will be able to end the series and satisfy her readers....but that is what writers do best. I am also eager for HBO to continue with the next series of True Blood-----even though it has made up so much of it's own story and last season did not follow the series at all. I am still eager to see Bill, Sookie, Eric and Pam in "real-HBO life."

Really, Charlaine Harris?? November 10, 2009 Violette Starowicz (Queens NY) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Although my review will not bring anything that hasn't been said before, I couldn't not write one because of how utterly disappointed I was in this book. The story is messy, jumbled together, and seems so forced that it's almost painful to read. Instead of sympathizing with Sookie, I am starting to really get annoyed by her. Instead of developing her, Harris seems to be unraveling her character. I don't think the Sookie of Book 3 or 4 is present in Book 9. I also don't think the Sookie in Book 4 would much like the Sookie in Book 9.
Like others, I am also completely tired of this whole Bill vs. Eric plot line. It's been going for far too long and I feel that Harris is employing this device because there isn't anything left in her bag of tricks that would keep a suspenseful story going. She has to keep using the same theme over and over again! How about Sookie finally picks a suitor that she can stick with for more than a book, and then we get to read about her life within that relationship and the conflicts that go along with it?
It barely seems that this book was proofread at all. On top of come of the continuity errors mentioned in other reviews, it was put together in such a messy fashion. Instead of feeling like I was reading the 9th book in a published, successful series, I felt like I was working through the words of an amateur-ish essay, finding myself wanting to insert comments and suggestions in between the lines of text.
I am not giving up on the Sookie Stackhouse series but the next book had better deliver. I am amazed that this text continues to get such positive reviews when even for a trashy, light read, this book was a little too trashy and fluffy. One thing is for sure - I think I'll wait to borrow the next book instead of taking the risk and spending the money.
