This Eating Strategy Worked for Me March 18, 1998 Judith Orth(mjorth@earthlink.net) (Culver City, California) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
In July I was diagnosed with Adult ADD. I was also almost 20 lbs overweight. One and a half weeks after I tried eating mostly the foods recommended for my blood type I noticed my brain stopped racing and I felt more focused. Not all Adult ADD can be helped with diet but mine certainly was. About 2 months later I was 14 lbs lighter and I didn't diet. I simply mostly ate the recommended foods without being a slave to them. In 6 months I lost 19 lbs and now not only feel good but like the way I look. This book works for me. I now notice what happens to me physically when I eat certain foods. I love clams but recently they had my mind buzzing so I will eat them very sparingly. My weight varies by 2 lbs from day to day but stays in a comfortable range for me with no effort. It has also worked for my cousin who has a different blood type from mine. My Psychologist says eating can't be related to blood type but all I can say is that this book worked for me effortlessly and I recommend it freely to others.
How can this eating plan work if you can't eat the food??? March 10, 1998 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I first came across this book while surfing the net and the author's ideas and premises sounded interesting and something I wanted to try. Before I took a blood test, I was SURE I was type 'O' (due to my natural cravings, what I like to eat and different eating programs that had worked in the past) - Boy, was I surprised to find I was type 'A' That means VERY little protein and very high carbs - oh, but not just ANY carbohydrates - only NON-WHEAT based ones. Try and eat like THAT for any amount of time!!! I did, and didn't like my choices at all. I quickly decided that while this diet / eating plan might have some merit, it wouldn't work at all if I couldn't stand the food. So I gave it up for something more moderate.
His critics won't take the time to understand its depth March 1, 1998 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've read a lot of reviews of this book and almost all of them just fall back on the "well, if it worked, we'd of known about it by now" -wrong! This guy pulled up a lot of very obscure scientific references to prove a basic point: You don't have a blood type just to complicate getting a transfusion! If only the pundits would LOOK at the amount of material he uses to prove his point, no one would dispute the findings. For the rest of us, we just go on intuition: Something about the premise of the theory just makes sense. Wonderfully written. My wife (type O) has followed the basic program for 8 weeks and has had a total remission in her psoriasis, something 4 years of prednisone and 10 years of vegetarianism did nothing for.
This is NOTa fad diet. Be objective when you read this book February 17, 1998 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am over 50, female and my doctor says I am healthy. Then why did I feel so lousy for so long? Headaches, contiuous weight gain, no energy, listless? I read this book and have been eating according to my blood type for about 9 mos. I have never felt better and lost about 30 lbs without even trying. The medical world of doctors have a lot to learn about nutrition. We are NOT all the same and should not all be on low fat, high carbo diets. Fat and protein are best for me and without this book, I would never have seen the light!. I am very grateful to Peter D'Adamo. My health is perfect! no high blood pressure, etc. My own doctor now believes there is some truth to blood type and health.
Buy The Book! Eat The Right Food! Be Healthy! February 17, 1998 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book WORKS! In the first week all of my immune related problems (Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue and Insomnia, budding Psoriasis, Depression and Mood Swings) were mitigated to the point that I actually felt like normal people must! To me it felt like being high, it was so good. I have been following the "Paleolithic Diet" and"Native Nutrition" lines of research for over a decade now. But how do you eat the food of your ancestors if you're an American Mutt? Live on Oatmeal, Kelp, and raw Buffalo?
Dr. D'Adamo's bookbrings it all into perspective. I am a Type O and most of the foods on his "Good" list for my type are the things I crave. Conversely, most of the things on his "Avoid" list for my type are the things I'll eat if you hold a gun to my head! My appetite at least agrees with him! I am on my third week and my family is about ready to give up and join me. You can't argue with visible success.
The good Dr. also maintains a very helpful website where you can get a lot of information - but you really need the book to get the details.
