Cut the Sugar February 7, 2009 J. FERRARA (Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really like this book because it mixed common sense with some clinical information about the body and the foods we eat. As we all know, Diabetes is on the rise in the US and people need to change their eating habits. This book gives information on why you should get rid of the sugar in your diet. The only thing it doesn't do is give you alternatives on what to eat instead of the high sugar foods. It also seems like the authors do not want you to even eat healthy fruits because they contain high amounts of sugar. This contradicts all the other resources on sugar; stating that you can eat fruits to maintain health glucose levels and a health immune system.
I like how the authors introduced the Glycemic Index (GI) which explains that some carbohydrates raise the glucose level in you blood faster then others. They suggest if you eat the foods with a low GI food, then your glucose level will level out and become somewhat normal.
I like how clinical the book get explaining how different areas of the body work and how different foods work in the system. This helps one to understand how the foods we eat affect the body. Beware, you may need a medical reference to help you decipher some the information, but this is ok because you really learn a lot from them.
The "Diet" itself is somewhat restrictive and can cause some problems down the road. They fail to mention portion sizing and you are left wondering how much can I eat? I would read this for the reference fact only and leave the "diet" to other sources. I worth while read for the information.
content great - excellent seller with which to deal October 19, 2008 P. A. Link 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wonder why I gave 5 stars when the pages of the book were dark yellow, difficult to read as result and wasn't worth what was paid for it or to ship it? Seller stated they didn't realized the book was not good quality, focused on customer satisfaction and gave a refund. That's worth 5 stars. The book itself has valuable information. Read the book, but get good quality publishing.
The New Sugar Busters ... July 13, 2008 L. G. Cusumano (Grosse Pointe, Michigan) I found this information very helpful and very valuable. Even though I try to maintain awareness of good eating habits, I found this exceptionally helpful in reducing all sugar products prior to purchasing.
I have controlled my urges with carbohydrates and my love for fruit that would create a lot of insulin, and since reading this book and getting the Sugar Busters Cookbook, I am intaking more fiber, watching the amount of sugar in natural whole foods in one meal dinners or lunches, eliminating a lot of "White" potatoes, and eating fruits more appropriately throughout the day or week.
I am extremely delighted to say.. I found I am losing weight, and not craving carbs or sugar foods as readily as I did before.
I highly recommend this in general, without any cause or purpose. You will get a great deal of insight and information that YOU WILL USE on a DAILY BASIS, without having to call it a "DIET". You truly learn how to get healthy WITHOUT DRUGS !!!
The New SugarBuster's April 27, 2008 B. J. Weir (Joliet, IL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I saw my hairdresser lost of weight I had to ask her what she was doing to lost it. She told me about Sugarbuster's. I though, well I'll try it, but it sounds hard. When it came and I read it, it made so much sense to me, it's been easy. Only had the book for 6 weeks, and have lost 11 pounds, I am older and it's very hard to lose weight as you age. I also can not excercise like I'd like to becase of breathing problems, so to lose this much mostley bescause of my new eating habits, I'm very happy. I also ordered the other two books that go with this, and keep the one on shopping in my purse. It's working for me.
