I have been using Scott's books and online training for photoshop for years now and this book just adds creative tools to a foundation of photoshop from his other books. This is a great book for those who wish learn to photoshop creatively. I highly recommend this book along with Scott's other photoshop books.
Great Book For Your Creative Side May 29, 2009 Patrick K. Fogleson (Texas) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have read this book through twice and played with some of the "tricks". What this book does is inspire and teach. It isn't a technical, follow this book to become a good photographer book. It is a here is a group of very creative ideas to try and work with and get inspired book. There are a lot more step for step how to photo books out there than creative inspirational books. This is not the book for those who want to limit themselves to nice pictures, it is rather a challenge to think and create. Thanks Scott.
Down and Dirty Photoshop TRICKS - not photography May 29, 2009 Mberky07 (Portsmouth, NH) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Scott has released another great book here, that again i pre-ordered, like I do with the rest of them. Unfortunately there are some reviewers who are quite confused and have left negative reviews. This book is just as the title reads, and it is NOT meant to help you with any sort of photography techniques whatsoever. This book does in fact have some great TRICKS and top photoshop techniques that are commonly used today in design/marketing campaigns. Thanks again scott and can't wait for "The Digital Photography Book, Vol 3," it's already pre-ordered.
Another Excellent Addition to the Series May 29, 2009 Phil Pickering (Leicester, UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
After a 6-year hiatus, Scott Kelby is back with a brand-new edition of Down & Dirty Tricks, the book that put his name on the Photoshop map. In those 6 years Scott has tended to focus more on the photography side of Photoshop, but this is him going right back to his design roots.
If you've never come across the Down & Dirty Tricks series before, you may be surprised at the way Scott tackles learning Photoshop. There's no lengthy explanations or theory, just quick step-by-step tutorials which result in the desired special effect. Anyone, at any level, can follow these instructions and produce the same end result as Scott. However, what I've found to be invaluable is not usually the end result, but the journey itself. Following the maxim of "learning by doing", the step-by-step approach reveals new panels you didn't know existed, shortcuts that increase your productivity, and a myriad of techniques that can be applied on many, many more projects outside of this books scope. This flexibility is often demonstrated at the end of many tutorials, where alternative results are suggested. An added plus to the tutorials, is that if you have no or very limited design knowledge, take a look at the "finished" image and learn some of the basic design principles such as alignment, proximity, repetition, and contrast.
Highly recommended to all Photoshop designers.
A great Photoshop Book May 29, 2009 Robert S. Brown (orlando, FL) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Another great book by Scott Kelby. Remember the title of the book is Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks. It's not Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Photographers. This is a great book for photographers if you can apply the techniques to your images.
