A must have for any serous photography enthusiast December 29, 2009 Reanna J. Bueno (Sunnyvale, CA United States) I am only half way through this book and so far it has made me laugh, cry, ooh and awe. No joke! It is a must have for any serious photography enthusiast.
The book uses a very easy to follow and retain format. There are simple words of wisdom in the coroner of the page (words like; use your camera), then there is text that explains the reason for the words of wisdom, on the opposing page there is a photograph driving the concept home.
This book is also loaded with industry related terms. The terms are defined at the bottom of the pages that use them. This really helps readers like myself who have not yet been exposed to the professional side of photography but are pining to get their toes wet.
I started reading The Moment it Clicks yesterday and I have already taken some great photographs as a result. I cannot say that my technical skills have improved. I took a community college course for that. What has improved is my attitude and outlook.
It is so inspiring to read. Take for example today. Today I had to work but it was a prefect day for a project that I had been longing to start. Instead of moaning and groaning about having to work I grabbed a slice of pizza from Pizza my Heart, and started my quest on my lunch hour. It was an absolutely wonderful feeling.
I have to admit that this book is not laden with pretty pictures and this could disappoint some. However, those who take the time to read it and not just look at the photos will acquire a wealth of information and inspiration. Again it is must have for any serous photography enthusiast.
Great book December 24, 2009 L. Bedford (Adkins, TX USA) I love this book. It's stuffed with practical information and lots of fascinating and funny stories about the author's encounters with the famous and the infamous as he struggles to get just the right shot. This book should be required reading for aspiring photojournalists. You can also get this book online at the Safari database, check your local library for information.
A gorgeous, inspiring and amusing book for photographers December 16, 2009 Ariane Colenbrander (Vancouver, BC) The moment it clicks: Photography secrets from one of the world's top shooters
Joe McNally
Joe McNally's work is world-renowned and many of the photos in this book will familiar to its readers. He's worked in over 50 countries and has the portfolio and talent to highlight it in roughly 225 pages.
The book itself is broken down into four main chapters and includes a handy lighting tips, gear (wow, what an investment!) and glossary guide at the end. As well, the Barroom chapter provides amusing anecdotes that those in the photography world can relate to. Joe's a great storyteller which leads me into the negative factor of the book: it's entertaining but won't cover the nitty gritty of getting the shots shown. The photographer assumes that his readers know a lot about photography and his tips, while educational and relevant, leave a lot of details out. I think that the tip is there more to inspire and motivate rather than try and emulate. Part coffee table, part instructional reference book, I would recommend purchasing this book for either its aesthetic, story-telling quality, or for an advanced photographer that will certainly know where to pick up from where the tip leaves off.
To recap: a gorgeous book and well worth having on the shelf for those excellent tips and stories!

Beautiful Imagery December 12, 2009 D. Spini I really enjoyed the layout and pictures in the book. I felt that the editing could have been more toward intermediate photographers though. But I am enjoying trying and working with the "secrets".
