 The Best Introductory QM Book I've Seen February 2, 1998

After several QM classes using other textbooks, the clarity of Shankar's book stood out.
A thorough reading of the first chapter, on the mathematical techniques of QM, rendered
previously mysterious calculations fully comprehensible. Furthermore, like all good
"introductory" textbooks, it has continued to serve as a valuable reference during my
career in physics.
Awesome introduction to field using Dirac notation December 31, 1997

Shankar has produced a lucid examination into the field of quantum mechanics employing Dirac notation from the very beginning. His initial 80-page introductory chapter on the mathematical notation needed for quantum mechanics (inner-products, Hilbert spaces, Hermitian operators, etc.) is the best I've seen (and one of the only) written for the introductory student. Much better book than Gasiorowicz, Bohm, or others I've seen as introductions.

Shankar seems to feel where the problems
for the reader lie. His calculations are
understandable and his style is just great.
He creates understanding in a way I've
never seen before (and I've looked at
a lot of textbooks on the subject)
