An Essential Handbook to have. August 27, 2009 Diana Huang (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you draw and want to get better this thick book is the one to own.
Written by the original masters of animation... it is a treasure. Even if you are not an animator... just randomly flip to any page and there you will find tips that take your work to another level. I see many artists whose artistic expressions of the animal and human form lack a dynamism. Subtle details unrealized that drain drawings and paintings of greater potential.
Volume one is mostly about the human, bipedal form. I look forward to getting volume 2 which is about animals!
Very insightful book regarding Disney artists. August 20, 2009 Water Monkey (Santa Clarita, Ca.) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I loved reading this book not because I am an artist but because I have always wanted to know more about their techniques. This book
Wow! August 5, 2009 Leo Sandberg Wow, simply wow!
There have been 12 books out there that have affected my artistic journey and "Drawn to Life", both volumes, are 2 of them. Sure there's lot's of repetition through volume 1 and 2, but that only helped to solidify what I learnt from them. It's like having a great Disney artist and tutor at hand whenever you want it. Thank you everyone who had a hand in getting this published! Top notch and top shelf!

This book is not just for animators; it contains information useful for all types of artsts who draw. July 23, 2009 Patrick Regan (Northampton, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Drawn to Life" is a compendium of lectures given by Walt Stanchfield to aspiring animators at Disney. It is a really good book that contains a plethora of advice on topics that are of concern to all artists who draw. For example, his exposition of endowing your drawings with life, while ostentatiously for animators, will help anyone breathe life into their figurative drawing. It is important to note that much of the insights in this book are conveyed through drawing of the figure. However, as the figure is central to art, I don't see this as much of a drawback. As you go through this book you will find passages here and there that will resonate with you. I recommend bookmarking these passages as you will want to go back to them especially right before a day of drawing. What I mean is, this book is very inspirational to all types of artists who draw and I really recommend getting a copy. You will not regret it!
