5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   August 8, 2009
Preggy (Esperance, Western Australia)
From the first page I found this book informative but interesting as well so I wanted to read it. I pick the book up all the time when ever I need to know something or want to check any symptom in the reference section. Love it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Information   August 4, 2009
Janice Schwarz (United States)
No hype, no drama, no preaching. Just "this is how it is". Pregnancy from a clinical point of view. I love that at each week, the book outlines what is happening to you and what is happening to your baby (or babies). There is information on most topics needed for pregnancy, including managing pregnancies when you have certain pre-existing medical conditions. Information is relevant for both mothers and fathers, and there is a section specifically for the new dads. I like the charts at the end of each section covering the various weeks that outline when to call a doctor for what symptom. Also, I've enjoyed the images they have of the babies each few weeks that say "X percent of actual size" so you can get a feel for how your child is progressing from one period to the next.

5 out of 5 stars Great reference, much less anxiety provoking.   August 2, 2009

2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I am a first-time expectant mommy. I borrowed a few other pregnancy books from some girlfriends when I found out I was pregnant and they all scared the *bleep* out of me - provoking more anxiety than helping with curiosity and questions (What to Expect When Expecting was one of the most anxiety producing for me). The Mayo book, however, was exactly what I needed and the only one I bought for myself. It gives you a good preview of what to expect in each week/group of weeks/trimester, and is a comprehensive reference for questions, concerns or curiosities you may have. It also has info for labor, birthing, breast feeding, post-partum etc. Every time I have had a question about anything having to do with my pregnancy, whether it be about what is going on with my body to what I shouldn't eat, to what the fetus looks like at my stage, this book had it. I love the pics it shows of what the fetus/baby looks like at each stage. Further and most importantly, the information is straight up and factual and doesn't scare me - even actually provided comfort in many situations when something was worrying me (light cramping in first trimester, slight discharge, moodiness, fatigue, dizziness, etc. all normal (phew)). A great reference - I would definitely recommend it to my fellow preggies - especially first timers like me.

5 out of 5 stars THE best!   July 31, 2009
B. Klick (Virginia, USA)
Can't go wrong with all these positive reviews - this book is THE BEST out there, especially for first time pregnancies. It is a wealth of information and I can't tell you how many times my wife has read about her week in pregnancy and said, "Oh I've felt that"! .. It is also great to reference if something doesn't feel right - to know whether it is "normal" or not during pregnancy.

I can't say enough about this book - this is THE book to get, especially for first time soon-to-be parents.

5 out of 5 stars best baby book   July 22, 2009

I bought this mayo clinic book, a girlfriend's guide to pregnancy and what to expect when you are expecting (which was awful, poorly organized and felt very out of date). This was the best and if I could do it again I would only buy this one book. The organization is very logical. I have not had a question yet that I could not find the answer to in this book. I love the pictures of the baby and info for each week. Also it is a realistic guide to pregnancy unlike some that have impossible diet plans and silly advice.
