So overrated. I don't even feel like finishing it! July 13, 2009 Adrian the Complex Lonely (USA) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I barely know where to start.
OK. The good.
The graphics are probably this game's best asset. The models are very nice and the environments are pretty decent.
The sound is borderline good but it's kind of minimal (even with headphones).
Controls are easy enough and they introduce new moves like the wall jump and bring old ones back like the basic jump of course and the ground pound.
Now onto the bad.
It's not that fun. Everyone seems to like this game but I can't really find a reason why. Sure, playing as Giant Mario and running through everything IS fun but the game itself is barely fun. It's more fun than Brain Age but that STILL is not saying much.
I'd recommend this to kids and some younger teens and die hard fans only. I know I'm late in saying this all because this game is 3 whopping years old (even though the price is still overbloated). But if I can reach two or three eyes and this changes their mind on this disappointing game then so be it.
It could have been more. I've owned it for 3 days now and I'm already on world 5 (haven't accessed the 2 secret worlds yet) but I'm sure if I was to play it a lot more often, I could finish it. But I'm not motivated to (although to be fair, I do want to see the rest of the "story" which is minimal in itself).
Cover Art: 5/5
Graphics: 4.5/5
Controls: 4.5/5
Sound: 3.75/5
Gameplay & Fun: 3.5/5
3.5 stars = C
end note: Buyer's beware - it's not that fun. But for those that don't know, you can be Luigi in the one-player mode. Just hold L + R and then pick the save file you want.
7-20-09: I updated (and upgraded) the Gameplay & Fun score from a 3.25 to a 3.5 because it has its moments, especially towards the end where the levels are more awesome (although harder).
I'm currently on World 8 but I didn't get to the hidden worlds, which I probably won't do.
9-19-09: I think I finished the game some time last month and it was alright. The ending wasn't big or anything like it should have been but I'm glad I beat Bowser. I shot him like 35 times with fireballs and he died. lol
The castle was pretty hard to get through though. Must admit that!

Mario's best Nintendo DS game July 7, 2009 Mark E. Valenti (Pennsylvania) New Super Mario Bros. is Mario's best game on the Nintendo DS, and the second best overall. There are a wide variety of levels, a lot of good power-ups, some new some old. This game is also pretty short, but there are a lot of mini-games to play, and this game is worth playing through a second, third, or even fourth time. I rate this game 95/100.
What made Mario so great back in the day is back! July 5, 2009 D. Felix (Curacao, Netherlands Antilles) Mario returned to his roots for this game. its like the best of SMB 1, 2 & 3 combined with a dash of personality and a sprinkle of really good music and sound effects.
This one is a classic for the new generation.
Fun July 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an 8 year old girl. I really like this game. I can play it every day and never get bored of it. It's a lot of fun and always challenging. It's my favorite game.
