 Great Ending to Great Series October 28, 2009

My kids loved this book, just as they loved the entire series. It's an action-packed, fun read. We all felt like the fourth book in the series was the best, but this was still an excellent end to a thoroughly enjoyable series. The adults and the kids in our house were engrossed from beginning to end. I highly recommend it!

this book ties everything you know in the series together, thats right plus with the nonstop action this book will leave you hungry for more, in this book all secrets are revealed including the past of the oracle, does annabeth have feelings for percy, wat is kronos's evil plan to conquer olympus and is percy the hero he thought he would be find out in this epic conclusion in the amazing series

My son loved the first book in the series. He wanted to continue reading the rest of the series but ran into a huge problem. Because of his learning disability he is not able to read this level book without the text to audio feature. We are finding out quickly that the text to audio feature on the kindle dx is very limited in the number of books that are capable of performing this function. Wish we knew this before we bought the dx!

Well, the moment has come. Kronos/Luke is making his big move in this book. He has gathered the Titans, hordes of ancient creatures of evil, the Minotaur (yeah, he's back), as well as a horde of rebel demi-gods.
Percy, on the other hand, finds the numbers of campers greatly reduced. And on a personal level, his attention divided between Annabeth and Rachel. I won't say too much more --because I loath spoilers-- only that Nikos is still urging him to undergo a terrifying journey to the Underworld in order to give them a chance to defeat the now physically invincible Kronos. (Remember, weapons just bounce off the evil guy)
Talking Points:::
The Final Book ties up all the loose ends. We finally get to find out what the prophecy means, and just exactly what sacrifice Percy will have to make.
The writing is just as wonderful as in the previous books. There is lots of humor as well as insights into the characters lives.
Personally, I was hoping for a little more 'pathos'. Death has always been treated lightly in the series, but I hoped this last book might change that perspective a tiny bit. There was one other plot element that I thought weakened the overall effect of the story, but generally it was a most gratifying read.
I HIGHLY recommend this series to young readers who love adventure. It's one of my favorites.

A Fitting Finale October 24, 2009

You would only be reading this book if you made it through the first four of the series. So readers are of this volume are, by definition, Percy Jackson fans. They will not be disappointed. My fourteen-year old son loved this series and approved of this final entry completely. I had mixed feelings about the series--enjoying the themes and the lessons of greek mythology, but less than engaged by the writing or the plots--but found this my favorite (or tied with the first) and, like the Harry Potter conclusion, this books ties up an extraordinary number of plots and hints from the earlier books in a satisfying way that remains true to the vision.
