5 out of 5 stars The Love Dare   November 23, 2008
The Love Dare is the most effective book I have ever read on marriage and how to repair damage done, and restore marital harmony. The reason I believe it works so well is it's simple daily approach, and because it requires honest self examination. These principles ARE Christian and the scripture that backs up the daily actions is made more clear in the context of personal relationship, married or otherwise. It is premised in part on the fact that we are all imperfect people, and basically selfish, and that we can build on our successes and virtues, rather than focus on our shortcomings, complaints, and petty differences. This requires humility, which is at the crux of the value of this book. I think The Love Dare could be applied to international relations and leadership. If world leaders were to apply the principles of "For the Benefit of the Other" embodied in the Treaty of Westphalia, which are Christian principles put forth by Cardinal Nicolas of Cusa to end the 30 Years War, we can use the simple golden rule to accomplish anything in life, through real Love. It is quite true that we have nothing without love. This principle is applied in the Love Dare. Nicolas of Cusa's principle of "For the Benefit of the Other" nation (surrendering our ego and selfishness) was the basis for the modern nation state, which recognized the sovereignty of different people culturally and geographically. This little book is worth a few libraries of other psychological nonsense about personalities and "conflict resolution," which is clearly not working for the benefit of humanity in it's current form. Hopefully this little book will catch on like Wildfire, and make us all Fireproof in any situation...simply by changing our daily habits from negative to positive efforts. If it can improve us as individuals it can then restore the world as well.

5 out of 5 stars Great book! An asset to any marriage   November 22, 2008
Don't miss the movie. The book is a great asset to bring it into focus. You will learn how to love when you don't feel like being loving and it will make you more lovable.

5 out of 5 stars review of purchase of Love Dare   November 22, 2008
The book arrived promptly and as represented. In fact, it looked brand new. I generally save a bit of money (even including shipping costs) and certainly time by ordering books through Amazon sources.

3 out of 5 stars Too trite and robotic...   November 22, 2008

I bought this book thinking I would be able to add to the marriage. I found myself in a robotic situations of saying and doing things on "certain days"....for the sake of the book. I wish it had something to say about doing those things already and most of those things I do already do in my marriage. So, it was no shocker to thank my husband one day or praise him on another day. I found the book to be very patronizing and too elementary for me. It may benefit people who do nothing for their marriages and think little of their spouses. For me, it was a waste...

5 out of 5 stars Powerful!   November 22, 2008

Thank you to the men who wrote this book for taking the time to prayerfully and thoughtfully put these love dares together! Several times already, I have stopped right in the middle of working on this book and asked the Lord to bless these men and all who were involved with the movie "Fireproof". This is an awesome combination to bring marriage ministry into the churches who aren't sure where to start. I appreciate this work for the effect it is having on our couples and on my marriage personally!
Our small group is "Daring to Love" at this time and it is great. Couples are testifying of their breakthroughs and how there is more peace in their home and relationships. PTL!
Personally, my husband and I have been transformed by the powerful word of God as we practice this love everyday. Love Dare is a book I will go through over and over. When the forty days are up with my husband, I will use it towards others in my life, including my grown children, as applicable. Even the "special dinner night" dare could be used towards one of my single friends and her children. Then I will begin the forty days over again with my husband. "Love works no harm" so it will never hurt to do this book the rest of my life if I choose to do so.
My husband and I are so focused on receiving God's unconditional love into our lives and then giving it back to each other that it is amazing how many arguments we have avoided. We are receiving another level of healing in our relationship from the concepts in this book and it feels good!
