Amazon.com Product Description
A must-have for action/adventure fans on the PlayStation 3 platform, the God of War Collection features both PlayStation 2 single player classics, God of War and God of War II. Remastered in high definition and re-released for play on the PS3 this collection allows both longtime fans of the series and those coming to it new to indulge in the addictive action and puzzle-solving fun of taking on the gods ruling the world of ancient Greek mythology. Over-the-top God of War combat. View larger. | Addictive puzzle play Kratos style. View larger. | Huge baddies and boss battles. View larger. | The God of War Saga Now for the PS3 The God of War series, made up of God of War and God of War II, featuring the brutal yet tortured anti-hero Kratos, engrossing storylines based in Greek mythology, over-the-top addictive action and puzzle-solving gameplay and simple controls is often referred to as one of the best, and/or most popular single player action games series ever made for PlayStation 2. The truth in this can be seen in the fact that in an era dominated by more advanced game consoles, fans of the franchise who have held on to their PS2's still revisit these two games from time to time, while gamers who missed their initial releases are tempted to give them a try, even though they have moved on to a PS3. Regardless which side of this you find yourself on the God of War Collection holds something for you. Released in advance of the highly anticipated God of War III, the first game in the series developed for the PS3 platform and rumored to also be the last overall, this collection allows players to properly prepare themselves for the final chapter in the adventures of Kratos, entirely through their PS3. The Games God of War Unleash the power of the gods and embark on a merciless quest as Kratos, an ex-Spartan warrior driven to destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with the lethal double chainblades known as the Blades of Chaos, Kratos must carve through mythology’s darkest creatures — including Medusa, Cyclops, the Hydra and more, while solving intricate puzzles in breathtaking environments. Driven by pure revenge, nothing can stop Kratos from achieving absolution. Over time, Kratos becomes the most vicious warrior in Ancient Greece and bathed in blood to a point where he can't bare it anymore and sets out on a journey to kill Ares. However, the only way to destroy Ares is to find Pandora's Box, which is located in a temple that's perched upon a hill and guarded by traps, puzzles, enemies, etc. The story is told as a flashback of three weeks prior to where the opening movie cutscene starts and then sets the stage for the game. God of War II God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a god. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos, the once mortal warrior turned ruthless god, sits atop his throne on Olympus, and is a threat far worse than his predecessor Ares had ever been, striking down anyone who crosses his path, or the path of his beloved Sparta. Filled with power and rage, the "Ghost of Sparta" sets out to alter that which no mortal or god has ever changed his fate. Facing mythical characters, all bent on preventing him from reaching his goal, Kratos' journey brings him to the very edge of the Earth. But this is Kratos, and his defiance is filled with such arrogance and contempt that all of the ancient world still trembles at his name: Kratos, The God of War. Key Game Features - God of War and God of War II on one Blu-ray Disc.
- Remastered in high-definition at a resolution of 720p.
- Anti-aliased graphics for 60 frames per second gameplay.
- Full PlayStation Network (PSN) Trophies support for each game.

Gladly Welcomed Return of God of War November 22, 2009 drywater2k (Adelphi, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So what does Sony do when the new PS3's are NOT backwards compatible? They bring back two of some of the best selling games made for PS2, and upscaled to 1080p! I just bought my PS3 a few weeks ago and got this game last week because I did not play them on PS2. And I was truly satisfied with this terrific game.
If you're new to the historic fiction-action/adventure/puzzle genre, think of titles like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Lord of the Rings II & III. This game blew any other game in its genre out of the water.
Pros:
+Great adventure and story for both games - Incredible scope. Can't say enough about that.
+25-plus combined hours of just playing the games straight through on normal difficulty with medium exploring
+Extras challenges, unlocked features, and hidden power-ups when exploring in both GoW I & II
+Challenging and fun puzzles along with incredible action
+Awesome action sequences that require quick reflexes
+Two games for one, and for a cheap price
+Almost everything looks better in HD and great frame rates
+High replay value (5/5)
Cons:
-Certain cut scenes looked low quality after upscaling, but did not take too much away from the experience
Not too many negatives. I'm glad I got this game and I know I'll be revisiting this to play in the tougher challenges and tougher settings (as I only played through the normal settings the first time).
For the casual gamer who wants to check out this highly addicting game, rent first then buy if you want to try the challenges. But for the fan eagerly awaiting God of War III, this is a must have, just to play through and get prepared for the end of the trilogy.
Other games I enjoyed are Bioshock and Dead Space.
Get this now!! November 22, 2009 Binh L. Tran 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great deal for an awesome game! Having played both back on the PS2 when it was released, playing it now is still fun after al these time. The extra details the hi-def provides is awesome, almost like playing a different game. Though it is disappointed that the cinematics are not in hi-def, what we're really after is the gameplay. In this regard, GOW delivers as it delivered years ago when it was released.
As an extra bonus, the game includes a voucher to download GOW3 which will be released early next year. CANNOT wait for that game to come out. The graphics are just unbelievable. The movements are so smooth and graphics so detailed, almost as if you're playing while a painting comes to live. I really think anyone (above 18 years old) will enjoy this game. It is that game and polished.
Great throw back for the PS3 November 20, 2009 C. Daniel (Laurel, MD) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I initially got into God of War with the version that game out on the PSP. It was my first time playing the game and let me say that I was all in. The little mini games with the various bosses are great and it adds depth and value to the game. Just great re-playability. I wanted to get GoW 1&2, but didn't want to buy and PS2 as I have a PS3 that isnt backwards compatible. However, when I heard the games were being re-released on the 3 in HD, this was great news. I purchased this as soon as it was released and have not been disappointed yet. Same great game play as in the PSP version. I hope more games like this come out in the feature and I cannot wait until GoW 3 is released. BTW, you get the GoW 3 E3 demo download voucher with this purchase, cannot beat that. If that's not incentive enough to buy it.
I HAD PS2 GAMES, AND STILL ROCK THIS ONE! November 20, 2009 Rodrigo Toledo (Guatemala, GUATEMALA C.A.) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
To start, I had became a fan of God of war since 2007 when i bought my ps3, and I borrowed God of War 1, after that I bought both games new for my collection and I loved them, the best action games, and franchise ever of the genre. A lot more than ninja Gaiden which is supposed to be the best for xbox. So why is it worth??? Well is like buying your favorite movie in Blu-ray, you love that movie, you owned on VHS, then on DVD, for the quality, and of course if its out on Blu ray, the answer is obvious.
I know not everyoine likes it, but if you haven't played it, give yourself a chance, you'll be hooked up. And like, Casablanca, La vita e Bella or those classic films, this game is one of those that really trascend not for its sales, or multiplayer, but for the entire epic scale, that really makes the word art, really mean something on videogames.
Now waiting for the makers of Ico and Shadow of the Colosuss to follow this pattern.
God of War in Hi-Def! November 20, 2009 B. Frantz (Earth) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having owned these 2 games on PS2 and highly anticipating the release of God of War 3 I had to have this collection. When I first played these games on PS2 I was left in awe. I played them so many times that my PS2 controller is now damaged and does not function properly from all of the ass I kicked. Now they have come to the PS3 and are beautifully remasterd in hi-def. The in game graphics are wonderful, the cut scenes for some reason did not get upgraded to hi-def but I guess that can be overlooked though it can be annoying when it goes from being crystal clear to grainy and blurry. The demo for GOW3 blew me away, this game is going to be one of if not the best game of 2010. The only thing that could have made this package more awesome was if they would have included a upscaled version of Chains of Olympus. How awesome would that have been to play on the PS3 in hi-def? Anyway I am very happy with this game and I highly recommend it for any GoW fans or anyone curious about GoW.
