Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 [Mac] November 20, 2009 David F. Daniels (Green Bay, WI) This is an update with new features which works as advertised. More of a Macintosh look/feel would be appreciated in future updates.
Does not work on my 2007 MacBook Pro November 19, 2009 T. A. Simmerson Jr. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I run CS4 at home on my windows machine but wanted something that I could use on the road for my Mac. I purchased Elements 8.0 thinking it was going to be a great, easy to use program for editing pictures quickly from my hotel room...wrong! After I installed the program I was greeted by the familiar Adobe Bridge, no issues. The problems started when I attempted to edit a raw photo in Adobe Raw which is supposed to be included with Elements 8.0. Every time I right click and ask to open Adobe Raw, I get an error saying I need to first open a qualifying product. I did get it to open once however, now I just get the never ending spin of death icon when I attempt to open a raw image and I have to force quit. Second issue, whenever I attempt to open a raw image in Elements I get the same spinning death icon, I waited five minutes at one point for it to open a raw image...no dice and had to force quit. So, I deactivated and re-installed. When I went to re-install I saw that Adobe PSE had somehow eaten 600mb of my hard drive, I had 70GB the first time and 69.4GB during the second installation. I just finished up the re-install and I am having the same problems. I am going to try a fresh version of snow leopard and see if it works. Frustrating to say the least, I thought Macs were supposed to be pain free.
My comp specs.

Great features at a good price. November 18, 2009 James Peterson (Savannah, GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the casual user like me, it works great and does more than I'll probably ever need. Simple to use quickly, with easy to use features. I can get the results I need and I haven't had to read the first page of instruction. Bridge seems usable, and give a quick way to find the best shots and manage all of them too.
Caveat Emptor!! November 14, 2009 Chip E (Florida, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
PSE8 for Mac is great for all the reasons covered by the previous reviewers. As a long time PS2 and PSE3 user, I have used these programs to generate stunning art work, which usually begins with my own photos and then utilization of a variety of brushes, plug-ins, styles. I have a hunch there are others 'out there' who have intuitively discovered the grand set of tools available in PS and PSE, who may appreciate the following discoveries (much to my dismay and disappointment) before making any kind of upgrade to this version. The bottom line (and this is after several correspondences with Adobe tech support) is that many of my precious plug-in's (Kai Power Tools and Xaos Terrazzo) DO NOT work with this version!! Also, although brush, shape and gradient files can be added (dropped into the appropriate folders), the styles files CANNOT be added!! Anyone who has worked extensively with styles will know how valuable they are! There is an assortment of 'canned styles' included, but if you go to the preset manager there is no longer even a drop down to select 'styles' as in other versions of PS and PSE!! If any of this is of significance to a reviewer, and helps to avoid making a hasty purchase, then I will feel a little better about my own hasty rush to upgrade. Will I use PSE8? Of course, but I will stay primarily though, with the earlier versions that allow free addition of styles and work with my precious plug-ins! I'm so disappointed, but am learning the hard lesson that newest and latest, isn't always the best choice!!
Elements 8.0 - A Huge Disappointment November 13, 2009 Spencer Woods (Warwick, Rhode Island USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am not new to Elements. I have been using Elements since version 2. I have spent thousands of hours editing hundreds and hundreds of images. With each new version, there are changes, some major, some minor. But, ultimately each version was an improvement over the previous one. So, I was excited to learn Elements 8.0 was available especially since there was no 7.0 for Mac. However, this new version to me is not an improvement but a huge disappointment. I will just summarize a few points.
The floating windows are frustrating but at least that can be turned off. But, the new tabbed documents feature, that can meld all open images into a single block, is very frustrating because it is too easy to stick the images together when you don't want to. Yes, they can easily be separated but it just adds a lot of extra work and makes everything more difficult.
When an image gets locked into place with the image title in the upper left corner, the document title appears, which is nice. But, when you mouse over it, you get a pop-up with additional data. The problem is that this title bar is directly below the items in the options bar or menu bar. You try to hit one of these and wind up getting the popup from the title bar, instead. If the document title was on right side, this would not be a problem.
Worse is the printing issue. Instead of a single window that allows all parameters to be set, now there are three or four additional windows that have to be opened with the options button. The ACTUAL SIZE indicated in the print window is NOT the actual size that I cropped the image to be. I had to go to the specific options window and manually enter the correct size, the real actual size. If I have four images open and hit PRINT, there are four images in the print window. I have to manually remove three of the images from the panel at left or they will get printed too. Again, this just makes lot of extra work for nothing.
I really don't understand the logic of these changes. It is as if all these were implemented by engineers rather than by people actually using the application. Everything is more confusing, difficult, and frustrating than it needs to be. There may be some very great new features in Elements 8.0, but I can't deal with this new interface to even find out. I will stay with Elements 6.0 and hopefully version 9 or 10 will be an improvement. I am just really disappointed.
