With the same intuitive instructions and icons we've come to expect from our Macs this fast and powerful image editing program has everything you need to enhance, edit and transform your photos.
Made just for the Mac, Pixelmator takes full advantage of the Mac's built-in iPhoto support and one-click access to iSight. Pixelmator's powerful toolset includes easy-to-use selection, painting, retouching and color correction tools that transform and enhance your pictures and images. It allows you to add text to your pictures, analyze colors, crop, transform, rotate or move anything in your photograph. It has over a 120 filters and special effects which can be used to absolutely transform your images.(some dramatic as well as funny stuff!)
I found it fun,simple,creative and the results..fantastic!!
Well worth the modest price and lots easier to use than Photo-shop.

This application surprised me. It is fast, easy to use and offers both Photoshop novices and pros a nice feature set. While no application can replace Photoshop for certain things, some applications can provide the just the right mix to be worthwhile. This application is worthwhile.
This application is also lightweight. When it first loads, it is only using 39Mb of RAM on my system. Photoshop uses 64MB. I realize this is not a significant difference, but I provide it for comparison purposes. After loading the same 6-megapixel photo, Pixelmator is using 63MB and Photoshop is using 101MB.
The standard features are all there: file-formats support, layers, filters, color-correction tools, drawing, cloning, and batch processing. I especially like the black user interface. The extra contrast provided by the black is useful when examining photos. There is iSight and iLife integration as well.
There are also some nice technical under-the-hood features like the ability to push some processing onto the GPU instead of the main CPU.
I would urge you to try the trial download an see for yourself. This could very well be the "elements-style" application you are looking for.

I have used Adobe Photoshop at work and wanted to try Pixelmator on my Macbook.
Pixelmator is a pixel based image editor. It will run on the Intel based Macs as well as Power PCs running OSX 10.5.7 and up. I have it running on Snow Leopard with no problems.
The program can work with over 100 file formats such as BMP, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PICT, PSD, and so on. Working on a file is much like Photoshop, there are layers and masks. You can use over 130 filters on your picture. Resizing a photo is easy with a range of 0-3200 %.
Learning to use the program was intuitive and there are tutorials and help pages.
I was up and running and editing in less than an hour.
If you want to have Photoshop results on your Mac without the high price tag, then Pixelmator is the way to go.
Still a bit inaccessible for a non-techie like me November 20, 2009

I really wanted to like Pixelmator and believe in its promise that it would be software that would have the Mac's user friendliness and intuitiveness. But my initial attempts to use it out of the box have been frustrating and have not given me the results I had hoped for. I don't need complicated graphic design help, as one might get with Photo Shop, just something simple for an amateur like me who wants to make his digital snapshots look better and maybe add a bit of text to them. So far, Pixelmator has not delivered. I'll stick with the painfully simple iPhoto for now.

I have used Photoshop Elements for years and recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro and needed new, updated photo-editing software. Pixalmater is as good -- if not better -- than Photoshop Elements.
