Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. View larger. | Story The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features - Challenging Multiplayer Modes – Modern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
- Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
- An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
- The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
- Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
- Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
- New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
- New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
- New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Story Line Unclear, No Real Cutsencenes, Gameplay and Everything else...AWESOME!!! November 21, 2009 Cole This game is amazing, the multiplayer and all is overall great. My only problem was the storyline was very confusing. About half way through, i had no idea what was going on or why. This might have been because the lack of cutscenes which i believe should be in a good game. But if you liked the previous games defiantly buy this.
WOW! What a game! November 20, 2009 Munchy95 (Texas) Ok, first off, don't listen to ANY of the horrible reviews that people gave this awesome game. They have no taste. Ok, just to go straight to it, if your a Modern Warfare fan, then this game will be Heaven on Earth for you. The campaign is AMAZING! If your an addicted, no life person, you might finish the story in 5 hours. But if your not then it might last you 3 days. But either way, the story is amazing. Some of the best graphics I've seen, and I LOVE the ending of the game! I was worried that they wouldn't make COD6 as creative as COD4, BUT THEY DID!
Ok, no for the Multiplayer. The ONLY thing that I don't like, but it's not even that big of a deal, is the Riot Shields. I even use them, but I just think there a little unnecessary. And also, I think a few of the maps aren't as creative as COD4's, but other then the few maps that aren't that good, the other ones are very cool. The guns are very awesome and there are SO many more things in Xbox LIVE. There a much more Perks that you can have. Much more kill streak rewards like the Predator Missle. And now you can even throw a knife!
Now, I'm not a big fan of the other COD games, and I truly do not like COD WoW. So I'm sad to say, that they most likely will be making ANOTHER Modern Warfare, but Infinity Ward will not be making it. Instead the people who made COD3 and COD WoW will be making it. I don't know, I just have a bad feeling in my gut that says it won't be as awesome as the first two Modern Warfare games.
Welp, thats all I need to say. I hope this has been helpful.
WOW November 20, 2009 Lamont L. Tran (San Jose, CA USA) This is now officially my favorite game on the Xbox 360.
Graphics:
- Significantly better than the old one.
- The guns are very detailed now too.
Equipments and customization:
- There are simply so many new guns and attachments to choose from.
AI:
- The computer is really smart compared to other games; their tactics will change. Ex. if you knife an enemy from behind the partner might or might not notice you.
- They don't spawn infinitely which is why the game seem shorter when it really isn't.
- Shooting specific enemy enables you to push forward because certain NPC pins you and your guys down.
Single-Player Gameplay:
- You can attack the enemy from many different places now and not just move forward in front of them. Ex. you can sneak around behind them.
- There are also SO MANY creative concept and levels to the game that is unique. For example, ice climbing, snow mobile, swimming under water with the navy seals, breaching buildings with slow motion, and the list goes on.
Storyline:
- Wow, this is by far one of if not the best storyline for any first-person shooter I ever played.
- There's a HUGE twist in the game and things are not what they appear. Although this might alienate some players from the original modern warfare.
Xbox Live:
- So many more customization.
- New kill streak rewards such as getting the predator, air drop, and heavy armored helicopters.
- Much more complex maps than the old games; which does encourage camping but people that use tactics can easily overcome campers.
- I didn't encounter glitches yet but I don't worry because updates will fix them.
- You get to throw the knife now ;)
Conclusion:
Modern Warfare 2 follows the same story from the first one but this one is ENTIRELY NEW. They do NOT recycle the old game. I really did get an entirely new feeling when playing this game compared to the first modern warfare.
Nice game Short November 20, 2009 G. Rhodes My compliments to the folks who made this game and the first one possible, thanks for your work. Its a good game with the same complaints that I had about the first one...the campaign is too short and no co-op for the campaign. It took a step forward by putting some co-op options in, but please make that final stride, if there is another installment and include a co-op camgaign with a multi setting, possibly an enemy hunt and/or other settings to keep replayability high. The only other thing that I find disconserting is playing different charachters that keep getting killed. Hats off otherwise.
Wow... November 20, 2009 L. Geiselmann This is one of the greatest games that I have ever played. I cannot compare it to the original Modern Warfare because I never played it, so I am only rating MW2 on its own merits. I will break it down into two categories, based on what I have played the most.
1: Campaign
The campaign in CoD:MW2 is amazing. The locales are spectacular and varied, and it is driven by an outstanding plot. I have only played through on the lowest difficulty, but I have seen it played through on Veteran. There is a nice mix in the missions between down and dirty fighting in narrow alleys, stealth missions, and sniper missions. The only complaint that I have with this mode is that the AI may in fact be a bit too good. For example, in one mission, you are running from a house to a helicopter evac down a hill filled with enemies. You get a checkpoint about half way down the hill. On veteran, you die a lot (I would say about every 30 seconds) and that hill is really hard. The AI learns your tactics, though, so what almost worked one time will be cut off the next. It was difficult and frustrating. Other than that, I have no complaints, other than the fact that when you get shot, it looks like someone splashed Kool-Ade on our screen (simulating blood). The game is otherwise beautiful, fast paced, well thought out, and all-in-all worth the price.
2: Online
The customization in the multiplayer online content is one of the game's best features. You start off with five classes (and space for five more customized classes) with various weapons and unlock different weapons, killstreak rewards and perks as you level up. As you use each of the weapons, getting so many kills or so many headshots unlocks attachments such as a silencer or better sights (or dual wielding for one handed weapons). There are between one and three different killstreak unlockables per killstreak (for example, if you get 4 kills in a row, you can either call in an Air Drop which gives you a random killstreak reward or a Counter-UAV which disables enemy radar for some time) culminating in a tactical nuclear bomb that is an instant-win. Personally, I have Air Drop, Attack Helicopter, and Pave Low (heavily armed attack chopper) as my killstreak rewards, at 4, 7, and 9 kills respectively. Perks include extra damage, invisibility to radar, and extra attachments on your weapons. The players on MW2 seem to play the objective-based game types more correctly than those who play Halo 3 or Gears of War 2 (for example, actually capturing the flags on "Capture the Flag"). The online play is very good and does not seem to have many glitches.
I look forward to playing more.
That being said, this is a Mature rated game and has earned that rating. There is a level (that you can opt out of) that may cause some players grief. It is a bloody game, though realistic.
