Follow-up game to 2007's critically acclaimed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a continuation of the adventures of Nathan Drake, a fortune-hunter with a shady reputation and an even shadier past. Chock full of all the action, adventure, cinematic story elements and beautiful graphics that set the first game apart, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves adds deep online multiplayer options, including co-op and competitive campaigns, and a whole new supporting cast of characters, making it yet another must-have title for the PlayStation 3 platform. View larger. | Story In Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves fortune hunter Nathan Drake embarks on a journey that will push him to his physical, emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala, more commonly known in the west as Shangri-La. In 1292 Marco Polo departed the court of Kublai Khan in China with 14 ships filled with over 600 passengers and crew. Eighteen months later only one ship remained and 18 passengers survived. Marco Polo never revealed what happened to these lost ships. Embarking on a quest to find the lost fleet, fortune hunter Nathan Drake soon realizes Marco Polo was hiding a much bigger secret - he had gone on a secret expedition to find the mythical kingdom of Shambhala and to recover the legendary Cintamani Stone, the "Wish-fulfilling jewel" of Buddhist mythology. With this new information Drake settles on a new course, following Marco Polo's trail through a diverse range of exotic environments. This quest also pits him against a new, more formidable adversary - a ruthless, rogue paramilitary leader with a private army and a relentless ambition to recover the stone for himself. Gameplay Although gameplay in Among Thieves is similar to that of the previous game, there are several major differences. The most important of these is the addition of several online multiplayer options. Unfortunately, no offline multiplayer could be included in the game due to the impact local split-screening has on the game's graphical quality. Thankfully though, the online modes included cover both co-op and competitive play. See the feature list below for details on these. In addition to play modes players can also expect a wealth of new gameplay features including a new stealth gameplay mechanic and altered climbing mechanic--both of which are extended to the AI of enemies; the ability to create cover by flipping over certain found items; the use of riot shields for defense and offense; and a complete lack of loading screens. Uncharted 2 worth the money November 18, 2009 Daniel Robert Ehrlich Hands down Uncharted 2 has the most stunning graphics I have seen in any game on the PS3. Worth the money.
One of my favorite games and I wasn't expecting it to be!!! November 18, 2009 N. Bernhardt There are enough reviews out there to tell you how simply great this game is. They arn't lying. I was expecting a enjoyable game that would keep my attention. It blew my expectations out of the water. This game looks absolutely beautiful!!!! I haven't been this WOW'd since MGS4. LOVE IT!!!!! On top of looking good it just felt so right and worked so fluidly. All the animations work together surprisingly well. Get this game if you haven't yet. Oh yeah and the multiplayer is an amazing addition to the second game that will have me keeping this one for a while.
You owe it to yourself to buy this game!! November 18, 2009 C. Lubinger (Alabama) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm going to keep this short and sweet since i'm sure hundreds of other people have said the same thing.
If you own a Playstation 3, you owe it to yourself to buy Uncharted 2. The game play, voice overs, humor, graphics... ALL will blow you away. Don't even get me started on how awesome the online multi-player is!
Don't wait, BUY this game now!
Game of the year, hands down.
Ah, THIS is why I have a PS3! November 18, 2009 Lynton Ferris (Houston Memo) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After I admittedly bought a PS3 mainly to not buy a 360 (and for the blu-ray), I have since been regretful of my decision. Seeing those 360ers playing Halo and all that junk, I began to look for the defining reason behind my actions.
That's where Uncharted 2 comes in.
First off, the game looks stunning. The graphics are the best I've seen (eva!) and make the game a true wonder to watch...yes, watch.
When you actually get your turn to play...the gameplay is improved upon the original with the addition of the stylish "riot shields" and about a billion propane tanks throughout the game for you to shoot (007 style). All in all, this game takes on a grander scale and is fun as hell with enough difficulty levels and unlockables to keep you for a second round.
The Story is fantastic, with the ending fit for a Hollywood movie (which may be closer to becoming reality than you think) and its fun and loving (...Elena...woowoo) will give you an emotional grasp to hold on to.
I welcomed the multiplayer scenario with some hesitation...seeing the Uncharted games as rich, single player adventures. With that said, It's obvious that the multiplayer modes will only attract some of the Uncharted players (especially those looking for the platinum trophy pickup), but the co-op mode does have its thrills...for awhile. All other modes of human v. humans are pretty disastrous, having way to much health and the terrible loading screens somewhat dampens the experience.
If you've read it this far...I'm impressed, and I certainly hope that you have already bought this game, which is the star of my collection and the best PS3 exclusive yet!
Kitty Got Wet November 17, 2009 Troy M. Miller 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved this game. For some reason, I am not much for First-person shooters, and prefer the third-person shooter point of view. For that, Uncharted 2 most definitely delivers. I was a big fan of the first one, and the second one definitely ups the ante. The story is solid and very movie-like, with much of the animation moving seemlessly in and out of cut-scenes. Sometimes during play there are cut-scene type things happening, but you're still in full control of Drake.
I also love the dialog. While not up to, say, Joss Whedon standards, there are definitely some good lines in there. Plus, there's "Kitty Got Wet," which is my favorite new taunt.
The multiplayer is new this time around, and I found it very well done. Granted, I'm not as prolific a player for multiplayer stuff - I've never played a Call of Duty game, for example, but the Uncharted 2 multiplayer has a wide variety of modes and is a lot of fun to play. It's definitely a nice bonus - I thought perhaps it might end up being a sloppy add-on to the single player, because "everybody's doing multiplayer," but they managed to pull of what I felt was a very full-featured multiplayer in addition to a stellar single player mode.
Make no mistake, though - where as some games (like the aforementioned Call of Duty) it seems like people buy the game mostly for the multiplayer and almost ignore the campaign mode, this game is a must-buy on the single player alone, and the multiplayer gives you even more options for playing almost indefinitely. Well, until Uncharted 3 comes out!
