Great Learning Tool! November 20, 2009 JenS Mavis Beacon continues to be one of the best software to teach typing. The CD's are great. I would highly recommend it for Beginners, Intermediate typists, and even Advanced typists!
Don't buy! It doesn't advance properly. October 23, 2009 Mom to E.M.A. girls (Covington, LA) I bot this for my 8yo daughter. She is doing great and enjoying it except for a program glitch: it doesn't advance properly - every 3rd or 4th lesson the program gives a lesson that includes all letters on the keyboard; as I saw in some reviews - you can get through the 'advanced' lesson and then it returns to a proper progression, BUT - it keeps doing this every 3rd or 4th lesson which is a real pain. Other reviews that I've looked up elsewhere (not just Amazon) say that the company acknowledges the problem but calls it 'minor'. I guess that means they don't think it important enough to fix. It is a very inconvenient problem in the program. Putting the glitch another way: you learn, say - 10 keys - then the next lesson will have all 26 letters in the lesson assuming you've learned all 26 when you've only learned 10 - you get past this lesson and it goes back to teaching you keys 11 & 12, you practice 12 keys for a couple of lessons - then the next lesson has the whole keyboard on it once again, and this repeats time and again. We're giving up and buying our 3rd typing program hoping it will work. (The first we tried, Typing Instructor for Kids - didn't advance at all - she learned the home keys and then it stayed on the home keys forever not advancing to other keys - aahh! - We just want to learn to type!). We will try "Typing Quick & Easy" this time.

Good for the basics only September 17, 2009 J. J. Lisandrillo (Ft. Lauderdale, FL USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used this software to brush up on my less than adequate typing skills and found it to be helpful in the beginning but frustrating overall. The program is good at the beginner level where upper and lower case letters are introduced and where the rudimentary skills of speed and accuracy are developed. But once you move on to the intermediate level the program starts to throw numbers and symbols at you so fast that it is very hard to keep up with the lessons without feeling frustrated. It's unfortunate because this problem could easily have been very remedied by creating a program that is either more sensitive to each user's development or that allows the user to customize certain lessons to cover areas where they feel they need more work. This software does neither. Nor is there anything in the way of backup support from the manufacturer.
Bottom line: A good program to start off with, especially if you're a beginner, but unless you plan on making a living as a typist you will probably want to move on to other software that gives you the basics that you need without all the frustration.
BAD product August 17, 2009 Lizzie Bennet I bought this product after receiving a high recommendation from a friend. She must have had an earlier version, because this Deluxe 20 version is full of bugs. The website acknowlages the problem, but offers no patch. The design of the program itself seems like a good idea, but after you are presented with the keys "i" and "e", everything goes downhill from there. All the practise sessions from then on use the entire keyboard, instead of only the letters previously taught. Very frustrating for a middle schooler and his mom. If they would fix this bug, it would be a good program. Very disappointed. Also, difficult to get any customer support for this product.
