A Blast from the Past November 18, 2009 T. Mickel (Tacoma, WA) This game is for those who remember the classic Sierra titles, from back when there were only a few production companies and you had to order your products from a paper catalog or visit Electronics Boutique!
Larry was one of the first games I encountered when I got my first PC at the age of 9 (okay, maybe not the most appropriate game for a 9 year old, but it was fun!). It was a copy my dad "borrowed" from a friend at work (sorry about that Al, but I've purchased 4 or 5 copies of the game since then!).
Like many Sierra fans, I was crestfallen as I watched Sierra go through several acquisitions which resulted in a hemorrhaging of seasoned Sierra developers and production of cookie-cutter games. Over the years, I held on to my old Sierra floppies and played them straight up until Windows couldn't support them anymore (and my trusty 486 with the 5 1/4" drive finally gave out). DOS emulators did an okay job of starting the games up, but they were mostly unplayable. Once Vivendi started rereleasing the games with DOSBox I started picking these classic games up again. They've done a great job of packaging these games into a playable format for XP and Vista (just make sure you play it in XP compatibility mode).
For you Larry fans, check out Al Lowe's web site at [...] where you can read jokes, sign up for his CyberJoke 3000 e-mail list, and learn all about Al's insight on Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust.
It's the Original December 22, 2007 William R. Fuhrer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These are the original games complete with the lowest possible resolution and frequent insults. I had forgotten how annoying it was to sign it by answering age sensitive questions and digging something out of the manual (which is now 57 pages you must print out). That annoyance remains. It's a great glimpse into the past and the jokes (insults) are as funny as ever.
Good but could be better. March 12, 2007 John Gray 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I liked the compilation games. However, it didnt contain the last game in the series 'Liesure suit Larry 7: Love for Sail". In my opinion the best in the series. Why make a compilation redo it in windows xp and not include the whole series?
A great re-release. March 4, 2007 L. Floor (ELYRIA, OH United States) These games are some of the funnest games of time. Great stories and hillarious plots.
Don't listen to what people say about the quality, I think they did a great job, even if they are missing the original LSLITLOTLW its not really missed because the remake is much better.
They didn't release the 7th game or the Magna Cum Laude because they weren't very good.
Now you do have to print out the manual, but its worth it and if you like Adult pc games, or are an adventure gamer, you must get this great compilation of games for a great price of 20 bucks.
Not fully compiled January 4, 2007 Mitch Vandelay (Memphis, TN) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I knew before buying that this was not the complete set of Laffer products, but I had thought that it was the full set of adventure games. Sorry to say, it does not. It only has Larry 1,2,3,5,6 but no Larry 7. (Larry 4 also could not be included, because the Department of Homeland Security burned all copies and launched the source code into outer space- so that is hardly Vivendi's problem)
Also the copy protection should have been removed. This arcane annoying relic of ages past of looking up answers in the documentation is made more annoying by having poor quality PDF of all the documentation online, and it is difficult to get through.
