Just one more turn... December 18, 2009 Jetiste (USA) This is a prize gem of a game. I tried a demo of HOMM 2 through a pc gamer magazine waay back in the day and forever more became hooked to the series. From the charming sound effects, to the engrossing game play there is much to love.
HoMM 3 is the best of all the versions in my opinion. With a map editor included in the game and the ability to download player made maps or even make your own, re playability is never out of the question.
Build your city by upgrading creature huts to amass a powerful army, capture and flag mines for revenue and explore the map for useful artifacts that combined with your hero skills can slaughter your enemy.
Even though this is an older title. It is far better than the newer versions. I highly recommend this for fans of turn-based strategy, fantasy and exploration.
Heroes III is the best of the series October 21, 2009 Gregory DAugustine (Greene, Maine) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having experienced all of the Heroes productions over at least 20 years of computer gaming I have no doubt that 3DO's rendition of Heroes of Might and Magic III is unquestionably the best game of the group. Aside from a very few computer player tactical flaws, especially when attacking and defending castles, the computer opponents provide a real challenge in most scenarios. The ability to download a myriad of scenarios from various websites allows almost limitless replay value. In addition, the game allows up to several allied or enemy human players (easiest by hotseat, but possibly still available for online gaming). Allied scenarios are generally lots of fun...
Sure, Heroes IV and V have updated graphics and some added features, but they do little to add to the gaming experience. And strangely, the computer players' tactics seem less sophisticated than in Heroes III.
This game definitely belongs in my all time top 10 computer games.
Unbelievable value -- 1000s of hours of thrilling gameplay! August 6, 2009 Eric van Bezooijen (San Francisco, CA USA) This is simply one of the best games ever made.
I still remember the day when I first tried the demo for a new game called "Heroes of Might and Magic (HOMM)." I literally ran out of my house, jumped into my car, drove to the mall, bought a copy, and became utterly engrossed. I've since bought HOMM2, HOMM3, HOMM4, and HOMM5.
HOMM3 is the best one in the series, and is beautifully presented with sumptuous graphics and sound, you are immediately immersed in the world of Erathia - this doesn't feel like a 10 year old game! The gaming formula is simple yet deep: your heroes gallop around the map, picking up artifacts, flagging sites, and gain experience and become more powerful. You build up your castles and armies, and have turn based battles involving might and magic.
HOMM3 is one of those insidious "just one more turn/hour" games like Civilization or Transport Tycoon. There is always another army to conquer, another improvement to build, another level for your hero to reach. Pretty soon its 3am in the morning, what happened! This is a great game for killing time in an airplane. It's so much fun to build a giant army of powerful units and crush the computer player, or try to figure out ways to win battles while losing the smallest number of units possible.
With a campaign game lasting hundreds of hours, a random map generator, dozens of maps, and an almost unlimited set of maps to download off the internet (google "heroes might magic maps" to find them), you can literally play this game until the day you die. There is also a fan-based expansion to the game called "Wake of the Gods" or "WOG" which adds tons of units and other things.
Compatibility: I do not know if the game runs on Vista. It runs fine on Windows XP, but you have to install and play it as the administrator (something I try to avoid).
Great game August 4, 2009 Dan Barkley I love heroes III. I've probably played through the campaign 4 times, and played all of the single maps over the ten years or so its been out. I lost my copy of the original, so I bought Heroes III complete, and the expansion campaign (I've only played Armageddon's Blade so far) are very challenging and fun. Great, classic game.
A forgotten past remembered. July 14, 2009 J. Hallmark This game brought back some old memories. I can't believe that i went so long without having it. I can honestly say it was well worth the money and will be played over and over.
