I bought this game after hearing how much it was like Age of Empires. Some even clainmed it to be an improvement on Ages II with such awesome abilities such as more ages (or epochs) to experience.
It is true, that the basics of the game are similar to AOE; however, the cool features such as expanded ages are nearly imposibble to experience. In short, if you want to start at the beginning of time and grow to the futuristic nano stage, you better not have many opponents or you'll run out of resources.

Criticize the game for its crude graphics, or its cheesy character voices in the campaign, say that it isn't as good as age of empires, or just completely shot every possible characteristic of this game down, do what you like, because after playing this game, I think the fundamental question this game will ask is: If everybody falls in love with this game, does it become a fact that the game is good? Well, there is a simple answer to that, and it is yes.
The success story
I own the dv2000 pavilion by HP, the first in its series, that kind of revolutionized the whole entertainment PC class of computer. Problem is, all its guts aren't so revolutionary, and the designers didn't plan for the doubling of computing power in laptop phenomenon, so they decided, "hey, if we know they'll never make a better laptop than this, lets saunter in all the processors and graphics cards, genius!!!" That has caused me alot of woe and frustration trying to figure out, why any game released after 2008 would not run on my computer. So, as a 90's kid at heart, I turned to the crude 16 bit PC games that strangely aren't missed so often. I am 15 to this day, and I remember I was 7 playing this game for the first time, and when my friend showed it to me I instinctively said, "you mean age of empires. OH! I've played that game before!" He smiled and said, "Danny, this is beyond that" And as he passed me his mouse, and put me in the control of an army of Clubmen, to phalanxes to flying mechanized fighting robots, there was something that went off in my head that said, "I don't own you, but someday I will return and buy you for myself" and now, 8 years later, my thirst for a truly amazing gaming experience has been 100% satisfied. (Warning may come with increase drop in grades and or productivity at work)

Overall, I can honestly say there is nothing wrong with this game. Alot of people will attack Sierra due to its lack of good graphics, which may seem a little crude today, but to be honest, when you immerse yourself in the game, and take on a god-like mentality to your little virtual people, the pixels seem to melt away and you don't notice that small, barely noticeable parts of the units in the game are a bit pixelated (such as the face and hands)Some people will attack the campaigns and how they aren't immersible enough that you can develop an interest in the story. Two things-
1: Completely untrue
2: An immersible campaign that unfolds like an actual story isn't really fitting for the type of game play, as featured characters have limited dialogue and each mission in a campaign is a different story anyway.
Another reason people will say that the game isn't anything close to perfect is the actual gameplay and how you control citizens and armed units. There is a simple solution to that- SLOW THE GAME DOWN, MAKE GROUPS FOR YOUR UNITS, AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR UNITS ARE CAPABLE OF!!!
The gold edition also comes with the strategy guide, which has pretty much everything you need to know about anything in the game, plus a units relation diagram, that can help you with commanding forces. Without some of these materials, I have no Idea how I would have gotten through all but two ridiculously hard missions
from the English campaign.
In conclusion, the game earns a tried and true 100%, there is no arguing about it, a truly outstanding game.

Indeed, if Empire Earth is currently an old game, it is always very easy and fun. Another good point is the multiplayers parts which permit doing very funny times.

I have loved this game since it was released! It has a really good editor, to. I can use it to build my own worlds and program my civilation with lots of special bonusess, or take out certin abilities or technologies to make it harder, or easier, and it's pretty addictive to me. I've played it so much I've had to replace it several different times because I wore out the Disks! I'm still playing it since the release, which I waited for if I remember right, for Months!
