4 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, but too short   June 10, 2009

Heya, I'm StoryMaker. I've been a JumpStart fan since my Kindergarten days. I was a little over 4th Grade when I played JumpStart 4th Grade, but it was still educational and fun. The games were intuitive, creative, and rather entertaining. The content was very appropriate for 4th Grade learning, and the storyline was thought out pretty well with great characters. However, it was, as my title suggests, not as long as I would've liked, and more content could've been put into the software. It was a nice game, but it ended quickly, tiring rather fast. Also, though the storyline was fair, it wasn't perfect. My main problem is the weirdness of the dog - he's just an odd pooch. Plus, though the storyline has merit, it's not very deep. It has a mystery theme, but the mystery is pretty short and rather shallow, partially due to the fact that the culprit is random. The other thing is there isn't much "mystery" to the mystery. Most of it is relatively clear from the beginning. (Not like ClueFinders - their mysteries really are mysteries.) Overall, it really is a fun and creative game, with plenty of fun and educational activities (I especially thought the history & science tile game was very educational), but it's not very long, so I suggest you try to check it out from the library before buying it. You could also try to buy the "advanced" version, which is the same product with bonus discs so there's more content. Meanwhile, check out the other JumpStart products and ClueFinders too. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

2 out of 5 stars OS 9 ONLY   June 8, 2008

DANGER. This software says it will work with Mac, but will require you to do so in classic mode. That means my fourth grader will need my help to get her there every time she uses the program. Not worth it.

4 out of 5 stars It's great but not OS X   April 3, 2005

Beware mac users - if you don't have Classic don't get it.
Otherwise - it is a great way to get kids going - and for parents the self assesment is a good way to level set

3 out of 5 stars My boy actually doesn't really like it.   January 6, 2003

I've usually been quite pleased with Jumpstart products, but my boy who is usually quite easy to get to go play educational games doesn't like this one. He says it keeps sending him back to the same thing over and over even if he gets a perfect score. I think he would have just liked a little more variety.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun! She forgot she was learning!   November 19, 2000

I recently bought Jump Start 4th Grade for my daughter. She loved it! It quickly became her favorite computer program. She introduced two friends to the program and they went out and purchased it as well! She prefers this computer game over television, so it was well worth the money. You won't be disappointed!
