Product Description Recent child development research indicates children are most receptive to learning languages at a young age. JumpStart Spanish gives kids the benefit of exposure to a second language while they are still learning their native tongue. Simple, age-appropriate activities introduce Spanish basics, including words, phrases, numbers, and songs.
Amazon.com Review You've probably heard that children have a much higher propensity and retention rate for language learning than adults. Some studies say that if you learn multiple languages at a very young age, you have a much better chance of remembering them over the long term. Programs like JumpStart Spanish are designed especially for children in preschool, kindergarten, and the first grade to make the most of this aptitude. JumpStart Spanish is easy to install, and it installs Apple QuickTime for the animation features of the program. As JumpStart Spanish can also be used for learning English, learners choose the language they want to learn and the language in which they want their lessons conducted. Once finished, JumpStart Spanish starts itself and students are introduced to the spunky animated rabbit who serves as guide through the lessons. The main page of this program is a "clubhouse" that includes doorways into the fun, colorful, and musical lessons contained in the program. Kids can click on different rooms in a dollhouse, for example, and then learn the words for all the articles inside. Children can also click on the television and watch different conversational videotapes that teach them how to say "What time is it?" and other useful phrases. JumpStart Spanish will teach this vocabulary and these phrases in both English and Spanish, helping children recognize words they already know and what they sound like in this new language. Children can learn at their own pace and, when ready, increase the difficulty level of the lessons. JumpStart Spanish uses music, friendly cartoon characters, and familiar items and situations to relate to small children and teach them a new language. Moreover, if you're not happy with JumpStart Spanish, Knowledge Adventure offers a 90-day 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. So, if you're looking to turn your child on to foreign language and make it fun and alive, JumpStart Spanish is an excellent choice. --Kendra Hayden
Amazon.com Product Description In JumpStart Spanish, children, ages 3-6, join Mr. Hopsalot from JumpStart Kindergarten on a special visit to his clubhouse, high atop a large oak tree. When kids arrive in the tree house, they realize Mr. Hopsalot's affinity for the Spanish language and its cultures. As they explore the many items Mr. Hopsalot has in his hangout, children are exposed to Spanish and English translations of common words and phrases and learn about Spanish culture in a fun and educational way. The product also includes a toggle that allows Spanish-speaking families to use JumpStart Spanish to introduce their child to the English language.

Second time around and still a bust August 29, 2009 HiSissa (New York) We were handed down this product when my nephew was too old to be interested. I installed it on the computer and upon trying to open it, the computer crashed and burned. I tried multiple times, but each time there was a problem and I eventually had to just uninstall it. So I thought it was that CD-ROM and purchased a new copy. Well, same thing. Mind you, I don't have a wimpy computer - my computer should be able to handle something like this (I use much more sophisticated programs each day: Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, 3D Studio Max) and yet, this silly little CD-ROM seems to stall and cough each time I put it in the drive. Argh.
So, the content may be good or bad ... I haven't been able to get past install to even know.
TOO OLD! Program incompatable with use August 11, 2009 R. McMullan (Ohio) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I want to rate this ZERO STARS. I ordered this product, but this is not what I was sent. I see that other people have had the same problem. The company sent me another version of the software labeled "Classical Version". It was created for Windows 95 and I am unsure if they have updated it even though it says it works on WIndows XP and Vista. When I tried to install it, it wanted me to install an old, unavailable version of QuickTIme. I am returning the product and will not try to buy it again. They need to get this old version off the shelf.
great for "catch up!" June 14, 2009 Senora Gose (Bryan, Texas) Each year, I've had several students want to join my Spanish classes in January, meaning, after a semester of classes has already passed. I am always hesitant to allow this, because the new students are so far behind the other students in their Spanish speaking ability. I know now, that if the parents say "We do Jumpstart Spanish," then most likely, they will be able to join in quite easily!
The accent is good, the teaching methods are effective, and the software runs smoothly and keeps the child engaged. Motivation is KEY for language retention.
The new students do not, of course, have the breadth of vocabulary when they miss the first semester, but they are able to join in conversations and games without feeling stunted in their basic understanding of Spanish.
I personally prefer one-on-one learning, or group (the interaction between humans just can't be reproduced by a computer, no matter how good it is), but as far as software goes, I do recommend this as a good, solid computer learning tool for Spanish as a second language.

recommeded to my Grandson Trevor for help in school September 5, 2008 Pamela Jahngen I purchased this for myself, an over 55 traveler, for help before a trip where we went to Spain and later to Mexico. I did not need a conversational Spanish class, I just wanted to be able to "get-by", and time was of the essence. IT is wonderful. This year one of my grandsons has a mandatory Spanish class. They just moved to NC from NH (where Spanish was not required in middle school), and he is having problems picking up the language from scratch. I KNOW THIS WILL HELP. It is fun and actually makes you want to learn and earn "aquarium items".
Thank you

Great learning tool! November 2, 2007 shadygardener (LaGrange, GA USA) Jumpstart Spanish is fun for the children while they learn Spanish. The characters are cute, and they make learning fun.
