Product Description
Echoing Brain Quest's lively design and unique silhouette, each workbook is a bright, kid-friendly invitation to delve into schoolwork with pleasure. The books are jam-packed with hundreds of curriculum-based activities, exercises, games, and challenges in every subject, but with a special emphasis on the core competencies of math and language skills. They're clear, they're interactive, colorful, and varied. Information is layered throughout the text. Kids will write, draw, solve, connect, add hands to the clocks' faces, and color in the fractional shapes. Six titles comprise the series, Pre-k through Grade 4; each is a substantial 320-page, full-color book. In addition, each title comes with a pull-out poster, more than 200 stickers, and 100 all-new Brain Quest questions and answers. Even the posters are keyed into the curriculum in second grade, children study the U.S. states, so the Grade 2 poster will be of the U.S.A., with all capitals, state flags, and state facts.

5 out of 5 stars Must-have   June 10, 2009
Llewellyn (Portland, OR United States)
Let me start by saying that I agree with some criticisms of this book; and it is certainly to be used only as part of a curriculum, not as the foundation. But these reservations are more than made up for by the book's greatest strength: the gorgeous graphics. If you're used to the afterthought illustrations in most workbooks, the full-color pages of this book will be a breath of fresh air. My son completed twenty pages of this book at one sitting. He just didn't want to stop, and I was thrilled. Supplement with books from the Spectrum series, for more in-depth pedagogy.

5 out of 5 stars love it   April 23, 2009

My daughter loves this work book. It's full of clor and fun activites. This covers all areas from math to phonics and all subjects in between!

Great for homeschooling!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for Kids!!!   March 23, 2009
C. Guzzardi (Bayside, New York)
I got both my daughters a grade up and they enjoy it. I can't even get my daughter to do her homework as easy as she does this workbook. Great workbook and the cards are excellent also. I am looking forward to buying more of their products. This is definitely money not wasted.

4 out of 5 stars Great for review, not substantive enough for new concepts   March 10, 2009
Phoebe Roberts (Oklahoma, USA)
I got this for my kindergartner, who's a bit ahead in reading, but right on track in math. She loved it, and did 5-10 pages a day fairly regularly all the way through the language arts sections. The pages that required more writing were harder for her - she only chose to do a page or two of those at a time.

Subtraction, time, and money were all over her head. She didn't have any time with telling time to the hour or the initial money worksheets, but couldn't move on to the half-hours or to adding coins, or to subtracting without manipulatives.

5 out of 5 stars Great for kids who are struggling a little!!   February 16, 2009
Rebecca Parks (Grand Junction, CO)
I bought this in hopes that it would work well with what my daughter is learning in school. She's struggling a little in 1st grade and I was looking for something that would help. Boy did I luck out the first try!!! Not only is this complimenting the lessons from her school but she loves to work in it. She does about 5-8 pages at a time because she doesn't want to stop. I love the reading and phonics section. The way they have it broken down really is helpful if you have a struggling reader. There is a section in spelling that has the middle sounds of words missing and I haven't found workbooks that include that. Beginning and ending sounds yes but it's great that this book includes the middle letters instead of assuming your child "get's it". I highly recommend this workbook if you have a student that has a difficult time focusing and needs that little extra confidence boost on being able to figure things out on their own. While its not an "easy" workbook it challenges them enough to not only help their self-esteem but also their skills as a student.
