5 out of 5 stars Great for curious minds   July 11, 2010

I picked this up through Scholastic ordering at my childs school. He's an advanced first grader, and loves this book. It's written in bite-sized paragraphs (perfect for short attention spans!) full of interesting information. It's made to be able to be read for a page or two and picked up again later if needed...or make it one long sitting and re-read as needed. Bright colors and interesting pictures help fill out information ranging from ancient measurement techniques, discoveries by Copernicus, Galileo and Newton (to mention a few), measuring temperature, energy, electricity, light, pressure and sound. Lot's of good stuff here, and I'm only touching the surface. It's a good place to get your kids feet wet in why math and science are interesting. It's been good for the whole family to browse.

This book introduces many mathematical concepts while giving you the history of these concepts. The ideas are clearly presented in an entertaining way that makes it hard to stop reading. I found it to be educational and engaging. My wife and I are reading this at the same time as our kids, the book keeps moving around our house as each person takes off with it when it is left unattended.
