5 out of 5 stars What a wonderful pointer to our purpose for our being   September 7, 2010

I found this book transformational. I also found that reading and listening to the audio simultaneously helped me be present as I experienced Tolle's teachings. I found this book to be a layered building of understanding to help one awaken. Complementarily, I felt that the book Power of Now was a wonderful follow on book after reading this one (eventhough it was published before A New Earth). The Power of Now, which is organized as a discourse, brings together concepts in each Q&A response that are very deep. These concepts are so well delved into in A New Earth that I was able receive the Power of Now's teachings more effectively.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book!   September 7, 2010

I have read a ton of books and no book had as practical effect on my life as this one; it literally changed my life.

You may want to skip the first chapter and read it last; it is a bit hard to get but starting with chapter 2, the book becomes a great read.

You will see so much of yourself and the people you know in this book when you read about people's egos and "pain bodies" left over from previous experiences.

If you practice being in the present and not letting the past and the future control you and you work on quieting that darned voice in your head...your life will change immediately.

Get this book. Read it. Tolle will change you for the better!

This book has become by far one of my most favorite spiritual texts, it has taken my practice to another level, and most likely do the same for yours!

4 out of 5 stars Life Changing!   August 22, 2010

Every now and then a book comes along that completely changes your life or perspective if you let it, and this is the one. Tolle opens with a look at our own insanity and madness and and proposes that we are at a real crossroads in our existence. Evolve or die. I suggest that many more people sit for an hour or so and just contemplate how mad our society really is. The same minds that create technology to repair the human body also invent weapons to destroy it.

The whole premise of why we are the way we are in Tolle's mind is the ego present in all of us. He then gives a very long and detailed look into just what the ego is. Once we recognize it, we can stop its stranglehold on us.

This book was meant to be studied over a long period of time with a good teacher. Which is why many people say that its similar to Buddhist teachings. It would have been perfect if it offered a list of excercises to help people to free themselves of the ego, but I think he saved that for another book. After all, freeing from the ego can be a life's work, which is called enlightenment in Buddhism, and its no easy task. I read this book at least once a month and am glad I found it in my life.
