Puzzle fun for pre-schoolers January 6, 2009 Educational fun for pre-schoolers. Helps with shape and color recognition as well as creativity. Only suggestion for the manufacturer is to add a more secure cover so that the puzzle boards and pieces can stay in the wood container. The flimsy plastic cover is useless.
Great for learning patience and fine motor skills November 17, 2008 My son was three when we purchased this and as long as I got him started and came by to look at each completed picture, he would keep himself busy getting all the pieces in "just the right spot" while I cooked, cleaned...etc. The boards are two-sided. We keep the pieces in a ziploc bag.
disappointed November 7, 2008 I waited a long time to buy a set of pattern blocks... previously, I have used plastic ones from the library. What disappointed me about this product is that while it includes this *useless* colored shapes boards, it does not include a "blank" board with a recessed geometric pattern, which seems standard with other sets. This would be like a "blank" (non-colored) board with a recessed shape of, for example, a hexagon where the kids can fill it with the pattern blocks. Without something like this, the blocks slide around which makes it difficult to create ones own patterns. I rated this product a four because I rate pattern blocks in general a 5, but this particular product, compared to other sets of pattern blocks would maybe be a 3.
Melissa and Doug Pattern Blocks October 30, 2008 This would be a great toy for kids over the age of 3 or 4. Its a little bit fiddly for the younger crowd, since there isn't anything to keep the blocks from sliding off of the wooden pictures. Both the pictures and the blocks are made of sturdy wood. My main complaint would be that there isn't really a lid for the toy, which limits the use of the tray that it comes with. Some other M&D toys come with a slotted lid that slides on and off, and I wish this one did too.
geometric puzzle August 24, 2008 My son is 3 years old and just bought the item which is well made. One improvement toy designer can make is instead of using just wood which slides down the boards, could use magnets and magnetic boards that hold the tile work on it. I would also place the puzzle in more functional box, there is no lid, container could be better. I'd buy it again
