4 out of 5 stars Good building toy for beginners   November 24, 2008

I saw these in the store and thought they looked interesting for my toddler. Easier than bristle blocks, bigger than legos - my son happens to be a little behind in his motor skills so he doesn't stack things easily, and these blocks stayed on top of each other better than smooth blocks. He also likes to stack the flat shapes - again, easier than regular blocks.

I've seen some bad reviews of these so thought I would put my 2 cents in, since I liked them. Maybe Playskool has the age a little high? Maybe they would be good for 9-24 months instead of 18 months and up? I can see little ones liking the nubs for chewing. The pieces aren't flexible or soft, but they don't have any hard corners, either.

Colors are bright, and I like that each shape has its own color... what I don't like is that I don't think I've seen a bigger set that includes blocks. This is the only one with cube-shaped blocks. The others all seem focused on vehicles and people. Also, I couldn't find them in my store recently when I went to buy more, so if the product dies out quickly, those of us with just a few pieces might be out of luck.
