Editorial Review A variation of the award-winning Gears! Gears! Gears! construction set, Movin' Monkeys adds a jungle theme to the building fun. Kids can follow the instructions and turn this set into the scene pictured on the box or can use their imaginations to create their own jungle setup. Monkeys hang from their hands or tail on the palm trees, vine, or each other and can even move down the length of a spiral building piece when the gears turn. Newcomers to these gear-shaped blocks may need to refer to instructions the first time they play with this toyespecially for details on how the palm trees fit together. The manufacturer's targeted beginning age is four years old, but we recommend starting at six after observing younger children having difficulty constructing the palm trees and inadvertently knocking them over. The 136 pieces include the building platform, gears, cranks, palm tree components, vines, and monkeys. --Cristina Vaamonde

Grandma's favorite October 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a grandma of 6 under 5 yr olds, I'm always looking for toys that keep them occupied and happy. Building sets have always been my favorites (Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, K'nex, etc). This looked different, but fun, so I tried it. Boy, am I glad I did! They love it! We did have to put together the whole big picture once, but after that they keep coming up with new ways to put it together to make the gears turn on the pads and in the trees. Although I can't speak about the longevity of the monkey gears since we haven't had it even a month yet, I can say that it is a favorite with me and with the grandchildren.
Should have listened September 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I know, everyone said that the parent will end up doing all of the work, but I held out hope that somehow my kids would sit down together and build this. But I was wrong. It really is a marvel once it is together, but I have wayyyy too much to do than sit for an hour putting this together, only to have it yanked apart. If you have a dedicated space to keep it together all of the time then that's great, but then again, how long can spinning monkeys hold a kids attention? I think I would have skipped this one.

Great toy to help open up the world of "how things work" for younger kids. Inspires imaginative play, problem solving, and cause & effect thought processes.
Gears are fun, but this set is not the best January 6, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We love GEARS, but I'm not crazy about this set. The monkey idea is cute, but for the most part they can't hang on and they don't really spin and turn like you think they're going to. There is one gear that doesn't match up, so it's basically non-functional. But we do love GEARS and would buy more of them.
This toy will be a classic! January 1, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
We bought this toy for our almost 4 yr old son for christmas this yr. He absolutely loves it and when asked which toy was his favorite christmas gift he said it was this set! He spends hours playing with it, my husband also enjoys playing with this set too, lol! In addition, I had also gotten an extra set of just a regular set of gear, gears, gears so my son could expand his set, which was a smart move. I fit both sets into a 27 qt sterilite container that I got at target, and it is the perfect size. Also, my 2.5 yr old loves this set too, although he isn't quite able to really build much on his own, but he does enjoy playing this toy with his older brother. The only thing about this set that surprised me is when the kids spin the gears the noise can be really LOUD! I guess I did not expect it, but basically it sounds like someone shaking a big box of legos with all their might in a plastic box when the kids turn the gears. Otherwise, the toy is great, totally worth the $. I forsee us expanding with more sets as the kids want to build even bigger sets.
