Amazon.com Review
With the Fisher-Price GeoTrax Remote Control Timber Railway, kids get to be conductors of their very own train. Completely remote-controlled, the three-car train features auto-aligning wheels that ensure the train stays on the tracks. Children will enjoy piloting the train around the railroad's many colorful bends, loops and slopes. They can use the working crane to load logs onto the train, or make a quick stop at the Easy Rail Station. Designed for kids ages two to seven, this train set provides hours of imaginative play.

All Aboard! Fun and Easy to Play With
The Timber Railway is painted in vibrant colors and has a cute, cartoonish look that kids will undoubtedly enjoy. The included train (named "Steamer") comes with three cars: a steam engine, a log cart, and a caboose. When the train's wheels move, its smokestack moves up and down. The train also comes with a conductor action figure. Both Steamer and the conductor also appear in the included feature DVD, which gives kids a story to work within and deepens their imaginative options.

The railroad adventure begins at the Easy Rail Station by placing the train on the orange portion of the railway where it automatically aligns to the track. In general, the auto-aligning mechanism does well keeping the train on the tracks, but the train will occasionally derail when going down some of the steeper slopes. Kids can pilot the train by using an intuitive remote control, or can opt to move it around by hand. As the train traverses the track, it will make its way up a mountain, circle around loops and drive through a tunnel. There's also a working crane, where kids can load lumber and other cargo onto the cars.

Build a Railroading Network
The Timbertown Railway features interlocking track pieces that snap together easily. Although it has been built for easy assembly, the track will most likely require some adult assistance during setup. With the help of the included instructions, setup should take approximately 15 minutes. In all, the set requires six "AAA" batteries (not included) -- three for the steam engine and three for the remote control.

The Timber Railway has been designed with smaller children in mind, and older kids will quickly get bored with the railway's compact size and limited activities. However, it is an ideal starter railroad set for younger children, and will provide hours of imaginative play. The set is also compatible with the rest of the GeoTrax set -- buy them all to assemble the ultimate railroad play set.

4 out of 5 stars Geo Trax Timbertown   November 11, 2009

2 year old loves it! I don't like how fast the train goes through batteries. I am looking forward to adding to our first Geo Trax.

5 out of 5 stars Our Whole Family Plays With It   October 28, 2009

DURABLE FUN! If I had to describe this item in two words, it would be those. We have 4 children, but our two youngest are 2 and 3. I think, finally, someone has thought up of something that doesn't have "hundreds" of little pieces, small children of all ages can play with it and actually love it. I am a busy mom of 4 who stays home now to care for my mom full time as well. This toy is so quick to put together, I take it apart at night and put it back together in the morning and it takes maybe 5 mins. out of my busy day. My 3 yr. makes different track designs thoughout the days and my 2 yr. feels like he's actually the one making the train go on, so he feels rewarded. You can see his little gears working when he watches how it's put together. With that alone, it's educational

I don't understand some people giving this item a "poor design" or "not durable" ratings. Our train set has been sat on, stepped on (remember I have 4 kids), pushed over. This track stays together well an does not fall apart easily. You actually have to "unsnap" the pieces.

I give this item a perfect 10! It's the only reason I've gotten other GeoTrax stuff... so I can add to it.

Awesome guys! Bravo!!

4 out of 5 stars Great toy!!!   October 26, 2009

This is a great toy. My two year old loves it. He is able to work the remote, and likes to pull the train around the track. It isn't cheap, but considering its durability, its fairly priced.

Pros: extremely durable. exapandable/compatible with other geotrax, configurable, the hill and tunnel are cool. Simple enough for a two year old.

Cons: the track pieces are too hard for a two year old to snap together, its a little loud (with no volume). If it came with a couple other figures that would be cool considering there is a "station". Two more figures and a $50 price tag and this would be a five star review.

Battery-life is good but not great.

We have no problem with derailing. It will only derail if the hill is immediately followed by a curve (simple physics, it get going pretty fast down the hill), just put a straightaway first after the hill and it will never derail.

All in all: do not hesitate to buy, it really is a pretty cool toy, though it isn't perfect.

2 out of 5 stars Good Idea but poor design   June 25, 2009

My 4 year old does like this train with the cool smokestack but the train design is poor. The smoke goes up and down as it moves which is neat. The train that is controlled by the remote is permanently attached to the first car of the train. The first car of the train does not lead the rest of the cars. Because of this, the first train often derails going down hills and gets my son frustrated. It's made just like the "Hauler and Big Rob," Team which we didn't keep because it derails. Not sure why they make the trains this way, it just frustrates my son. Expensive too.
