| Customer Reviews: Lenmar R2G charger and batteries September 3, 2010 Ric (MN USA)
The Lenmar R2G charger and batteries performed beyond my expectations. Lasting 3 to 4 times longer in my digital camera compared to alkaline batteries. Highly recommended!!
Good battery & charger package - with one major drawback August 28, 2010 NLee the Engineer (Nashua, NH) This package (Lenmar R2G804U R2G 4-Hour Charger Includes USB Output with 4 R2G 2150mAh NiMH AA Batteries looks like a very good deal, because:
1. The battery charging current is 600mA (0 to 1.5A pulsed at 40% duty cycle), which is a good compromise between 'shorter charge time' and 'longer battery lifespan'.
2. The charger has an USB output port, which can be used to power or recharge other USB devices.
3. The four included 'Ready-2-Go' AA cells have very low self-discharge rate, similar to the better-known SANYO eneloop.
However, there is one major drawback with this 4-hour charger: it can only charge in pairs. That is, you cannot recharge just a single cell, and you cannot group one AA with one AAA cell in a pair. This is very inconvenient if you have appliances that require odd number of cells. Now you are left with one cell that you cannot recharge. If you try to charge one exhausted cell together with one partially-charged cell, the charger will not stop until both cells are full. But by then, the second cell will become toasty hot due to over-charging at 600mA.
Some other minor issues you should know about this package:
1. The charger cannot recharge batteries and also power its USB port at the same time. As soon as you plug an USB device into the USB port, battery charging is terminated.
2. The USB port power is only available when the charger is plugged in to 100-240V AC. It cannot be powered using rechargeable batteries.
3. Capacity of the Lenmar Ready-2-Go AA cells is rated as '2150mAh'. But the average capacity measured, using my La Crosse BC-9009, is only 2030mAh. In contrast, most of my eneloop AA cells measured higher than rated capacity, close to 2100mAh instead.
If all your appliances use even number of rechargeable cells only, then this package is still a reasonable deal. Otherwise, consider the Duracell Mobile Charger CEF23DX2 instead. It charges cells individually, can operate using 12V car battery, and its USB port can be powered by rechargeable batteries.
Love the USB May 31, 2010 Pen (Internet) I chose this for the price point which seemed equal to similar products, but the added bonus is that I can use the USB port to charge my Blackberry too. This was handier than I'd expected, hence the 5 stars.

This is probably the best charger I have bought so far. It is very efficient and has a USB port as well which let's me charge my mp3 player without the need for a computer. Also my batteries seem to be fully charged now compared to a Duracell and a Kodak charger that I own. Since its not a fast charger it should extend my battery life as well which is good. It also supports 120 and 240 volts which is a plus for travellers.
