This mahjong set is styled to have the look and feel of a traditional American Bakelite set. Buttery tiles sit atop comfortably beautiful wooden racks, and a wooden rosewood veneer case with felt lining gives this set an understated elegance. This set has 166 tiles, including all the 144 tiles for classical Chinese play as well as an extra 22 tiles for the American version of the game. With this set you can comfortably play either version. To play the Chinese version simply use the red dragons as the 'hong zhong' and the green dragons as the 'fa' tiles.

American Mahjong Game Set with Red Wood Case
This is a great set. Very nice tiles that are easy to read and the case it comes in is quite beautiful. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a starter set (everything you need is included) or even an advanced set. This was my second set and I really love it. I can't comment on the instructions as to how good they are because I already know how to play so I have not reviewed them. It's a great game of strategy and a lot of fun. Enjoy!!

As others have said, this set is stunning. The wooden case and racks are beautiful. The interior fittings are velvet. The Customer Service from Yellow Mountain is an 11 on a scale of 10 - the original set I ordered was back-ordered and they had not realized it. The replaced with this set (after giving me several options), which was higher priced, but they replaced at same price as the one I had originally ordered.
The only critique I have of the set will probably disappear over time - the velvet boxes fit very tightly inside the wood case and it is a bit difficult to re-pack the set. Over time, I think the velvet will wear just a little and it will become easier.
Great value - looks much more expensive than it is.

I bought this for my mother and she absolutely loves it. I've used this set several times myself and the quality is excellent. The pieces feel very solid and have a good weight. The case and trays are very also very nice.
Beautiful Mah Jongg Game Set January 8, 2010

I bought this Mah Jongg game set for my wife as a Christmas present. She had started playing Mah Jongg with the neighbor ladies. We were very impressed with the quality of this set - the wooden, felt-lined case, the engraved tiles, and the wooden racks. It is priced very well for such a beautiful set. The more experienced Mah Jongg players said it was one of the nicest sets they had every seen.
